The University of Manitoba adds a big recruit to their 2016 class, one that will certainly make waves across the nation. Brock Gowanlock, the 6’4″, 300# star DT from the Langley Rams of the BCFC has signed with the Bisons.
Raised in Duncan, BC, Brock is a relative newcomer to football but has made a huge impact in the BCFC with an All-Canadian nod this season, and hopes to build on his recent success now that he is with the Bisons. “I would like to say thanks to the Langley Rams and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I’m super excited to continue my football career with the Bisons and I’m looking forward to doing my best to help the program push for a Vanier.”
Chris Clement, Bison Recruiting Co-Ordinator, had some strong feelings about the signing. “Brock is the crown jewel of our recruiting class. He comes in at a time of need with the departure of David Onyemata to the NFL and he looks to be an immediate plug-and-play answer for us on the defensive line. He has ideal size and superlative quickness and I look forward to his presence as a disruptive force for the next few years.”
Longtime Bison HC Brian Dobie was at no loss for words when asked about his newest player. “Brock’s commitment to the University of Manitoba is huge for our program, and in particular to our defense. He is an explosive 6’4″, 300# defensive tackle who arrives at Manitoba with timely significance, impacting in helping to replace the departure of Metras award winner David Onyemata, hopefully to the NFL. Brock’s last two years with the Langley Rams have been outstanding, and his development with Coach Alamolhoda and Coach Kirby have escalated his progress to the CIS level. Brock brings to the Bisons an aggressive and confident style of play, and a winning attitude and work ethic. We’re grateful that Brock has chosen Manitoba to further both his academic and athletic pursuits.”
“We are very excited to have Brock joining our group,” says Scott Barbour, DL Coach for the Bisons. “He is athletic and physical playing inside but it is evident on film that he can rush the passer as well. He has proven his ability at the junior level and will be a welcome addition to our defensive line. I look forward to the chance to work with Brock.”
Brock is the 22nd signing of the Bisons class and the fourth defensive lineman. Manitoba has signed seven CJFL players this year, including two Langley Rams (Anthony Daley being the other one). Brock’s highlights are available at http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4067553/
