The centre is nothing short of an important piece of the line. Darius has one of the most impressive resumes in football. Being that he is currently sitting on the #CFC100 2017 list, it reflects that he is nothing but well experienced in this sport.

Darius Mackay
#65 Darius Mackay, Woodberry Forest

Playing football his since his early years has given Mackay the chance to play on some quite substantial teams. With these teams he has received some pretty amazing accolades to his ability and talent. Playing Junior Varsity with the Terry Fox Secondary team where in 2012 the team went undefeated and all the way to the Provincial Championship. The following season saw Darius transferred to St. Thomas More Collegiate where he played both on the Junior and Senior Varsity teams with again a successful year of wins on the field. As for this current season, Darius has been reclassified and transferred to Woodberry Forest School in Virginia USA where he is seeing his dreams of playing with a post-secondary team become a reality.

With all of his success, there is a list of impressive post-secondary schools interested in this young man. Along with his own considerations, Darius is having a great time discovering the excitement of the future. The schools being tossed around are, Carleton University, Laurier University, Queens University, Simon Fraser University, College of the Holy Cross and the University of Maine. Some of these schools have provided talks and some have inquiring about visits. “I’ve been talking with Simon Fraser College and been to a Holy Cross game. There have been some discussions with Maine for a bit too.”  In this last month, Simon Fraser University has come forward to give an offer to Darius,  but it doesn’t end there as Carleton and Ottawa have also come forward with offers, and there are many visits pending in the months to follow. With future goals of Journalism and/or History, Darius would like to see both of goals of football and academics come together in a great school.

“The highlight of last season was probably our game vs. Bullis in Week 3 as we won in overtime 66-65. It was crazy.” These are usually the moments that every player treasures and keeps them motivated for all future games. Clearly the motivation doesn’t end there as there is always a group of support behind the players and it is no different with Darius. “The most influential people in my life are my parents and siblings.”  Giving his family the kudos in surrounding him and there to guide help in choices and of course major cheers for the plays.

Dedicated to his time on the field, he is also dedicated to his time in the gym. Making sure you are in top physical format means training at least three times a week outside of practice. “I’ve started working on my technique and punch with a heavy bag in the weight room.” For the off season, Darius spends his time with lifting, field drills, and conditioning four times a week. All of this for one goal and that is to keep his feet on the field.
