CJFL: Playoff position jockeying the main focus as BCFC regular season winds down

Only three weeks remain in the BCFC regular season and the playoff picture is all-but-set with three teams having already clinched post-season berths but, that being said, this week’s games have plenty of post-season implications for the teams both in and out of the playoff picture at the present time.

Last week the Okanagan Sun (2-5) helped their push for a playoff spot immensely by scoring a convincing 42-18 win over the Kamloops Broncos (1-6) to pull into sole possession of fourth place in the standings. They’ll have a tough task trying to keep their position this week, however, as they will have to try and knock off the powerhouse Vancouver Island Raiders at Caledonia Park this Saturday, September 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm.

The Raiders (6-0-1), moved into sole possession of first place after knocking off the Langley Rams last week by a 41-29 score. The Rams’ loss, coupled with the Westshore Rebels 33-3 pounding of the Chilliwack Huskers, dropped Langley to third place and allowed Westshore to move into second place.

The Rams (5-1-1) will have a chance to reclaim second spot this week when they pay visit the Rebels for a clash at Bear Mountain Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is at 4 pm.

The final game of the weekend goes on Sunday, September 30, and features the Broncos hosting the winless Huskers (0-7). The Broncos need a victory, coupled with a Sun loss to the Raiders, to pull back into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot. Kamloops’ lone win of the season came back in the opening week of the regular season against Chilliwack.
