Mounties sweep Week 3 AUS football player of the week honours

September 25, 2012 (HALIFAX, N.S.) – Running back Jordan Botel, defensive lineman Ryan Downe and punter Kyle McLean, all of the Mount Allison Mounties, are the Week 3 AUS football players of the week for the period ending September 23rd, 2012.

Running back Jordan Botel of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 23rd, 2012.
Botel, a 5-foot-10 freshman from Prince George, B.C., ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries in a 36-17 Homecoming win over the StFX X-Men in Sackville, N.B., this past weekend. His TD runs both came in the opening quarter of Saturday’s victory, the first from four yards out mid-way through the quarter and his second coming from 27 yards at the 12:18 mark.
Botel, a former player from the Vancouver Island Raiders of the CJFL, is now second in AUS rushing yards with 253 through three weeks of play and his average of 84.3 rushing yards per game ranks him 11th among CIS running backs.
His 159 yards on the ground are also the most rushing yards by a Mounties player since 2008 when former Mount Allison QB Kelly Hughes ran for 167 yards in a single game.

Mount Allison defensive lineman Ryan Downe is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 23rd, 2012.
Downe, a fifth-year student-athlete from New Maryland, N.B., recorded 4.5 tackles this past weekend, including 2.0 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks in a 36-17 victory over the StFX X-Men.
In his five seasons with the Mounties, Ryan has now registered 119.0 tackles, and his 18.5 career sacks rank third all-time in Atlantic conference history.

Punter Kyle McLean of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week.
McLean, a second-year Arts student from Nepean, Ont., had an impressive punting performance in a 36-17 Homecoming victory over the StFX X-Men this past Saturday in Sackville, N.B.
Despite rainy and muddy conditions, Kyle punted 13 times for 563 yards, an average of 43.3 per punt and added two single points for the Mounties. His stats also included four punts of 50 yards or more, a longest punt of 60 yards, and three kicks that were downed inside the 20-yard line.
McLean, who also had a 26-yard reception in the win, currently ranks first in AUS punting average (42.0 yards per punt), ranking him fourth in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) punting stats after three weeks of play.
