Ontario (Guelph): Green Gaels Come Out On Top Against Centennial Spartans

GCVI Green Gaels win in the opening season game against the Centennial Spartans with the closest final score all week in Guelph High School football.
 

On Friday, the Centennial Spartans played the Guelph CVI Green Gaels for their first game of the season.

Centennial opened up with a field goal in the first quarter, bringing the score to 3-0 early on against the Green Gaels. The lead was not kept as the Green Gaels pulled ahead in the second quarter with a touchdown, bring the score to 7-3 for GCVI. An interception by the Green Gaels and a recovered fumble had GCVI leading 15-3 at the end of the first half.

The Green Gaels went on to score another touchdown in the third quarter bringing the score to 22-3. However, Centennial made a comeback early in the fourth quarter with another touchdown, bringing the score to 22-10. GCVI went on to score two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter bringing the score to 36-10.

A late touchdown however on a received punt by Centennial made the final score of the game 36-17.

Centennial coach Josh Ferguson remained positive however saying that, “It’s the beginning of the season and we’re a young team.” When asked what he thought the team could improve on Ferguson said, “Being a high school team, we could improve on everything. There isn’t one spot on the team that we couldn’t tighten up on.”

Centennial’s game against GCVI was the closest score of the week in Guelph.
