The Manitoba Bisons football team is pleased to announce the commitment of Jayden McKoy, Braedy Will and Houston Rennie plus receiver Kurt Goodrich for the upcoming 2013 season. The three defensive backs are from the Winnipeg high school system and Goodrich played with Winnipeg Rifles.
Bison football head coach Brian Dobie talked about all four recruits.
“Jayden, Braedy and Houston represent three of Manitoba’s top high school defensive backs,” said Dobie. “All three help to address a major area in this years’ recruiting season, as we wanted to increase quality and depth of the Bison defensive secondary.”
“Kurt returns to the Bisons and highlights a specific need at wide receiver. He has now excelled with the Winnipeg Rifles program and is ready to challenge for a starting position.”
McKoy, completed his high school football career at Miles Macdonell in Winnipeg:
- The 5’11’, 170 lbs. safety/quarterback/receiver/kick returner was 2012 Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year and 2012 Potter All-Division Team
- He was 2012 WHSFL Harry Hood Memorial Award Winner – player who shows academic achievement, school citizenship and demonstrates fair play – and part of 2012 Potter Division’s ANAVETS ‘AAA’ Bowl championship finalist team plus was named Player of the Game in Championship final despite loss
- In 2012 WHSFL stats, he was top five in passing and rushing; first in scoring; tied for first in interceptions; first in defensive touchdowns; ninth in tackles
- In 59-30 win vs. Garden City on Sept. 27/12, McKoy had two passing TDs, three rushing TDs, a kickoff TD and interception touchdown in that one game
- At 2012 Canada Cup, named Offensive All-Star Team as receiver and team captain
- In 2011, WHSFL ‘AA’ Finalist, plus named Offensive Player of the Game
- Named 2011 Kas Vidruk East All-Division Team and 2011 Miles Macdonell Buckeyes Offensive Player of the Year
- Named as an All-Star in basketball in back-to-back seasons (2011-12) and on the honour roll with 90+% average
Will finished his high school football career at Oak Park in Winnipeg:
- The 6’4”, 195 lbs. safety/quarterback/punter was 2012 Potter Division All-Star team and WHSFL honor roll
- Potter Division defensive player of the week three times in two varsity seasons and one special teams player of the week
- Led the WHSFL in interceptions in 2011 as Raiders was finalist in Championship ANAVETS ‘AAA’ Bowl
- D’Arcy Bain physiotherapy award nominee and Elite performance defensive player of the year nominee in 2012
- Part of Oak Park playing in the 2012 Global Ireland Football Tournament (GIFT)
- For graduation year of 2013, Will was Ridley Scouting Top Prospects #1 ranking for defensive back and number #25 overall player ranking
Rennie ended his high school football career at Miles Macdonell in Winnipeg:
- The 6’1”, 180 lbs. defensive back/receiver/quarterback was 2011 and 2012 WHSFL defensive player of the year nominee
- Part of 2012 Potter Division’s ANAVETS ‘AAA’ Bowl championship finalist team
- 2011 & 2012 U18 Team Manitoba at defensive back position
- In 2012, he registered 27 tackles, four interceptions, six sacks, two forced fumbles and one touchdown
- Broke the Potter Division sack record with six in one game
Goodrich played the last two seasons (2011-12) with the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) Winnipeg Rifles:
- The 6’1”, 185 lbs. receiver was PFC Rookie of the Year and PFC All-Star in 2011 after 33 receptions (fifth in PFC) for 526 yards and seven touchdowns (seventh in PFC scoring)
- In 2012, he was Rifles captain but was injured during the season
- Red-shirted with the Bisons in 2010 season
- In 2009, he was named Football Canada Cup Under 17 All-Star in Saskatoon
- He was selected as Sport Manitoba Male Junior Athlete of the Year for 2009 season
