Gene Odulio (17) died Sunday after collapsing during a football game at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Brampton on Friday. He was a defensive back with the Cardinals football team and was playing in an exhibition game against Brantford when he collapsed. The school held a memorial gathering Monday morning for Odulio.
“There was no major hit. It happened in the fourth quarter and he was rushed to Sunnybrook,” said Bruce Campbell, spokesman for the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board. “We aren’t aware of the cause and it is being treated as accidental. It was a brain injury for sure. I didn’t know him, but I am getting a pretty good picture of him. He was an outgoing kid who loved football.”
Mourners took to Twitter on Monday after learning of Gene’s death, using the hashtags #MeanGene and #RIPGene to express their condolences
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
