NOVA SCOTIA FAILS TO CONVERT TURNOVER OPPORTUNITIES AGAINST ONTARIO EAST
The first game of the final day featured Nova Scotia and Ontario East, battling on the consolation side of the 2011 Football Canada Cup draw. Pride and seeding for next year’s Football Canada Cup were on the line in the 7th place game.
Ontario East opened the scoring on a 11-yard sweep by running back Nicholas Morassut. Ontario East increased their lead to 14 when defensive back, Harrison daCosta stepped in front of an attempted hitch screen, returning the pass 38-yards for a touchdown.
After a failed 3rd and goal by Nova Scotia, the next play the defense was able to force a fumble by Ontario East’s, Derek Pisani which was recovered by Taylor Macdonald on the 15-yard line. Nova Scotia was unable to get their offense in gear, leading to a second unconverted 3rd and goal.
With 5 minutes remaining, Nova Scotia’s Adam Melanson recorded a sack on first down, and on second down tackled QB Duncan Lurie for a loss on a bad exchange.
With 1:45 left to play in the final quarter, Nova Scotia recovered a Nicholas Morassut fumble– down 14-0, inside the 30-yard line. After converting a 3rd and 4 to Andrew Klain, Nova Scotia quarterback Matthew Shannon threw an interception to John Biewald which he returned 53-yards. Following the interception, Duncan Lurie connected with Danny Vandervoort for a 54-yard gain which set up a 3-yard running score by #21 Nicholas Morassut. The game was closer than the 20 to 0 final score would indicate.

Le premier match du troisième et dernier jour de compétition au tournoi de la coupe Football Canada 2011 opposait la Nouvelle-Écosse à l’Est de l’Ontario pour le septième rang du classement.
L’Est de l’Ontario a ouvert le pointage sur une course de 11 verges du demi offensif Nicholas Morassut. L’équipe a ensuite doublé son avance quand le demi défensif Harrison daCosta a trompé un jeu d’écran pour intercepter le ballon et inscrire le touché sur un retour de 38 verges.
Après un troisième essai raté et les buts pour la Nouvelle-Écosse, le jeu suivant a permis à la défensive néo-écossaise de forcer un échappé par l’Ontarien Derek Pisani, recouvert par Taylor Macdonald sur la ligne de 15 verges. La Nouvelle-Écosse n’a toutefois pas pu profiter de cette occasion, conduisant à une deuxième tentative ratée de troisième essai et les buts.
Avec cinq minutes à faire, Adam Melanson de la Nouvelle-Écosse a réussi un sac du quart sur un premier essai et il a plaqué le quart Duncan Lurie sur le deuxième essai pour une perte sur un mauvais échange.
Avec 1:45 à jouer au dernier quart, la Nouvelle-Écosse a recouvert un ballon échappé par Morassut, en retard 14 à 0, à l’intérieur de la ligne de 30 verges. Après avoir réussi un troisième essai et quatre verges vers Andrew Klain, le quart néo-écossais Matthew Shannon a lancé une interception à John Biewald qui a retourné le ballon sur 53 verges. Après l’interception, Duncan Lurie a rejoint Danny Vandevoort pour un gain de 54 verges, suivi par une course de touché de trois verges de Morsassut. Le match était beaucoup plus serré que le pointage de 20-0 ne pourrait l’indiquer.
