During his football career, Nathan has excelled as an elite defensive talent. While playing for his high school team, the Paul Kane Blues, he was MVP in 2012. Moreover in 2011, the defensive standout had the opportunity to represent his hometown province as a member of Team Alberta at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge. The team ended up coming away with a silver medal from the tournament.
That same year, Nathan was midget spring football MVP. Furthermore, he was selected to the Alberta Senior Bowl Team North (2012). The defensive standout experienced the highlight of his football career in 2012 when he represented his country on the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Development Team.
“It was a great experience and I’m so proud I was given that opportunity to be in Texas with some really talented players from all across the world,” adds Nathan of the experience.
Next season, Nathan will continue to shine as a defensive star at the University of Calgary. Recently, he decided to commit to the school due to the strong, yet successful football program as well as the opportunity it presents for him to excel as a player.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Nill and what he’s accomplished with the Dinos so it was an ideal place to commit,” explains the future Dinos player. “The players and coaches were extremely welcoming during my visit so I knew it would be the right fit for me.”
“The team works hard on and off the field, so I’m extremely excited to have this opportunity and look forward to contributing to the team in whatever way I can.”
It would not have been possible for Nathan to achieve all his goals on and off the field without the support and encouragement of his parents.
“My parents have been supportive in everything I’ve done in my life and without their guidance, I don’t think I’d be where I am today,” comments the Blues defensive back of his main influences. “I’m thankful to have a family who believes in me and wants me to be successful.”
“My father loves watching me play and making him proud has always been a goal of mine whether it’s between the white lines or in everyday life.”
While he would like to continue playing football for as long as possible, Nathan does have a future career goal. Ultimately, he would like to follow in his father’s and uncle’s footsteps to become a police officer and says it’s been an interest of his for quite some time.
As he prepares to set foot onto the University of Calgary campus in the fall, Nathan will take the things he’s learned from football to further excel in all avenues of life.
“The most important thing I’ve learned from football that applies to my life is to work hard for everything your get,” says Nathan. “You are taught discipline and perseverance from the game as well.”
“Things aren’t always gonna be perfect on the field and that’s the same with your life, but you learn how to deal with adversity and are able to respond in those situations to adapt and overcome.”
