With the start of the regular season just around the corner, the Junior Varsity Metro Toronto Wildcats of the Ontario Varsity Football League are gearing up for what should be an exciting season.
After a disappointing 3-5 record last season, last year’s Head Coach of the Bantam Wildcats Ed Babin has been brought up to the JV squad to breathe new life into the team. With many new player recruits and coaches brought in, head office is looking to shake things up and start competing with perennial powerhouse teams from Myers and Toronto Thunder.

With OVFL All-Star running back Pelle Jorgen gone for the upcoming season, newcomer Jordan Burgher, a Bantam OVFL all-star running back, will have some big shoes to fill. Quarterback Greg Dosset, who posted an impressive 91.1 quarterback rating returns for the upcoming year with big expectations from coaches. Quarterback Coach Lance Fergin hopes his star QB can improve the team’s mediocre passing stats last season. Safety Trevelle Wisdom and off-season acquisition receiver Trivel Pinto are being pegged as the team’s breakout candidates.
Coach Babin sees the team’s all around positional depth, which was a weakness last season as a big advantage for this year. “We seem to have depth at almost every position (sometimes too much). We have speed and size. If we can execute, we should be very competitive.”
The Wildcats hit the road for their first game of the regular season on May. 26th against the Newmarket Bucs. The Cats play their first game at home at Esther Shiner Stadium against a tough Ottawa-Myers Riders team on June 6th.
