OVFL: JV Hawkeyes looking to take next step

In 2011 the Oshawa Hawkeyes Junior Varsity team had a very productive season going 4-4 and making the playoffs.

Their offense averaged just over 21 points per game while their defence only allowed an average of 27 points per game. But the fun stopped there after losing in the first round of the playoffs.

This season the Hawkeyes will once again be led by head coach Rory O’Connor who hopes his team will not only once again make the playoffs but go deep into the tournament. The offense will need to continue their success from last year but also improve upon it. They should have a well-balanced attack and be able to score on any defense in the league with ease.

Defensively the team was solid last season. At the beginning of the year they held their own and were very rarely blown out. But as the season came to a close opposing offense seemed to have them figured out and could score more often. However, during the playoffs the defense played well but just not good enough. In order for the entire team to take the next step the defense must play more consistently and force more turnovers.

Looking at the teams schedule the Hawkeyes are very capable of winning every game. The team has had playoff experience and should be ready to move forward taking on any team that gets in the way of their championship run. There is a possibility of running the table this year but the team will be in tough against the Toronto Thunder and Essex Ravens. Coach Rory will be sure his team doesn’t over look anyone, as each team is just as capable as the next.

Predicted Record: 6-2.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
