The Quarterback position in Football, as defined by google, is the offensive leader, and the most vital part of the team. In the Varsity Wildcats home opener, QB Nikko Stamatis was surely all that and more.
In the Cats win Saturday at Esther Shiner Stadium, week three’s undisputed offensive MVP passed for 360 yards, 3 TD’s and one rushing touchdown in an exciting 31-24 victory.
Running back Travis Jennings had a monstrous breakout game out of the back field for Metro. With most of his damage coming via the pass, the star RB exploded for 115 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Three Wildcat players had at least 5 receptions and 50 yards in the game. Wide Receivers Kyle Wright and Omari Archibald had impressive games along with Travis Jennings. Wright had seven receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown, while Omari Archibald came up with 5 receptions for 51 yards respectively.
Running Back Marvin Gaynor lead the charge for the Wildcats on the ground with a beautiful 70 yard rushing play, setting up a Metro touchdown.
Defensively, the Wildcats executed their gameplan well. Their D-line and Linebackers put lots of pressure on the QB Nick Gorgichuk and shut down Myers powerful running game, limiting them to less than a combined 100 yards rushing.
After a frustrating loss last week, Defensive Coordinator Niamoo Quarshie was very impressed with his teams play in Week 3. “I am very pleased with how the defense and the team rebounded from a tough loss last week. We stepped up the challenge versus a well coached Myers team in a must win game” Quarshie stated.
With a 2-1 record to start the year, the Metro Toronto Varsity Wildcats take the road and hope to continue their strong play of late on Saturday versus the Etobicoke Eagles.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
