OFC: Varsity Toronto Jr. Argos continue losing streak

The Toronto Varsity Jr. Argos lost this week 32-10 to the Huronia Stallions on Sunday.
“We haven’t had a great start” says head coach Frank Trentadue, “But we are competitive”.

The Jr. Argos move to 0-4 this season and are now in ninth place overall in the Ontario Football Conference.

Luckily for the Jr. Argos, there has been some improvement over the last couple of games. QB Chris Sharanewych has played strong games, WR Nate Rouse has been “outstanding” and Joseph Sarfo-Boateng has been a strong RB option for the team.

Unfortunately, the Jr. Argos defense has left much to be desired. With some senior defensive players such as Thomas Sabastiano, Frank Trentadue and Reid Midanik currently out with injuries, the team’s defense has been struggling. “We need to be more consistent,” says Trentadue. Players who have been trying to fill the void left by the injured are linebackers Luca Zuliani and Mike Moore. Lamar Foyle and Solomon Sarfo-Boateng have also stepped up to help lead the defense. The contributions by these players will help strengthen the team.

Next week the Jr. Argos are taking on the fourth place Burlington Stampeders in Burlington. The Stampeders are carrying the momentum from a victory last week, and the Jr. Argos will have to bring their A game if they are to have a chance to win. “Traditionally Burlington is a strong football club” says Trentadue. “We are going to have to be consistent if we are going to compete with Burlington”.

The game will take place at Lord Nelson High School at 4:00PM.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
