In their inaugural season in the Ontario Football Conference the Varsity Hamilton Hurricanes sent a message to the football community that they are the real deal and a program to be reckoned with.  On Saturday at Nelson Stadium in front of a jam packed crowd the  Varsity Canes were crowned OFC Champions with a 27-24 win over the undefeated Huronia Stallions.  Canes QB and offensive player of the game Kyle VanWynsberghe connected on a 9yd pass to Jake Williams to open the scoring. Both teams traded scores throughout the game with RB Jake Reddick adding a 22yd TD run and VanWynsberghe scrambling in to the end zone in the fourth quarter to score what eventually became the game winner. The injury laden defence played admirably denying Huronia receiver Daniel VanderVort from finding the end zone and playing just good enough to capture the victory. “I’m extremely proud of our whole team. We had numerous starters out on the defence but our seconds and thirds rose to the occasion. It is definitely promising for our future” stated Head Coach Rob Underhill.
The win capped off an unblemished 11-0 season with the Canes scoring a league leading 476 points while only allowing league low of 80.  “The season was a victory for the Organization’ added Underhill. “It has set the standard for all our age divisions from the grassroots all the way to the top. With the quality of players, coaches and volunteers entrenched within the Organization success is inevitable”. The Hurricanes would like to thank all supporters and wish the best of luck to all players graduating to the next level. Canes Forever.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
