OFC POW #1: Coates, Tonn, McDonald

Offensive Player of the Week (1):

Wide Receiver #84 Matt Coates – Hamilton Hurricanes

Leading his Hamilton Hurricanes team to a 48-24 victory over the Twin Cities Predators, WR #84 Matt Coates had several receptions for a league leading total of 162 yards and three touchdowns, which has earned him the honours of Week 1 OFC Offensive Player of the Week. Matt is in his final season and has been described by the Hurricanes organization as a great athlete, and as someone who’s a big game and big play performer.

Defensive Player of the Week (1):

Defensive Back #11 Jess Tonn – London Beefeaters

Despite the loss by his London Beefeaters team to the Windsor AKO Fratmen by a score of 24-7, there was no denying the exceptional performance by DB #11 Jess Tonn, who led the entire league with 20 defensive points, earning him the honours of Week 1 OFC Defensive Player of the Week. With six tackles, one special teams tackle, and three batted down balls, Jess had a truly great game. According to the Beefeaters organization, Jess plays extremely strong against the run, and just as strong against the pass.

Defensive Back #22 Kodee McDonald – St. Leonard Cougars

Helping his St. Leonard Cougars team to defeat the Ottawa Sooners by a score of 18-10, DB #22 Kodee McDonald had a stellar all-around day by finishing near the top in both the punt and kick-off return categories. On punt return, Kodee had the second highest total yards behind teammate Jean-Jacques Janvier Jr., and on kick-off return, Kodee pulled off the longest run of the day at 48 yards, earning him the honours of Week 1 OFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Kodee is in his second year, and has been described by the Cougars organization as an explosive player, who when he’s not returning kicks, is aggressively using his speed to gun down other kick returners.
