Montréal, September 9th, 2013 – McGill Redmen running back Luis Guimont-Mota, safety Vincent Plante of the Laval Rouge et Or and kicker Félix Ménard-Brière of the Montréal Carabins are the RSEQ university football players of the week for the period ending September 8, 2013.

McGill running back Luis Guimont-Mota (Management) is the offensive player of the week in RSEQ university football. The 22-year-old sophomore from Quebec City, rushed for 111 yards on 18 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns (21 and 28 yards) as McGill defeated Concordia University 32-19 to capture the 45th annual Shaughnessy Cup. His efforts helped the Redmen improve their record to 1-1.

Vincent Plante (M.B.A. Management), safety with the Rouge et Or from Université Laval, is the defensive football player of the week in the RSEQ. In the 20-0 win against the Vert & Or from Université de Sherbrooke, the Rouge et Or didn’t allow a single point to their opponents. Plante had a strong showing collecting 4 tackles, 1 interception and a fumble recovery. The Rouge et Or are undefeated so far.

Félix Ménard-Brière (Arts & sciences), kicker of the Carabins from Université de Montréal, wins the special team player of the week award in the RSEQ after a solid overall performance in a 44-18 win against the Bishop’s Gaiters. The rookie kicker excelled on field goals successfully converting his 4 attempts. At the beginning of the second quarter the Gaiters were up 8-7 before seeing Ménard-Brière kick 3 consecutive field goals of 29, 23 and 14 yards. In the fourth quarter, his 13 yarder sealed the second victory of the season for the Carabins. He also maintained a 65 yards average on four kickoffs.
