Ravens take step forward in loss

Windsor, ON. (Sat, Sept, 14)-Modern day football history was made by the Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon in Windsor.

RB Marley Patterson (Toronto, ON) scored Carleton’s first road touchdown in 15 years as the Ravens were defeated 44-14 by the Lancers in OUA football action.

Patterson scored on a two yard rush at 2:38 of the third quarter to cut into Windsor’s 33-0 lead.

Despite spotting Windsor (2-2) to a 24-0 first half lead, Carleton (0-3) was a lot more competitive in the final 30 minutes of the game and played the Lancers fairly even being outscored by just three points, 17-14.

“We (Carleton) have taken another step forward,” said Ravens head coach, Steve Sumarah.

“We scrambled around in the first half but I thought that we settled down as the game went on and played well. Our offence is starting to find a rhythm. It’s on defence that we are making some mistakes.”

Carleton picked up another TD with 34 seconds to play on a 1 yard run by Keith Graham (Halifax, NS).

Ravens QB Nick Gorgichuk (Ottawa, ON) had a decent performance running the Carleton offence finishing the afternoon completing 12 of 24 pass attempts for a total of 175 yards.

Kyle Van Wynsberghe (Delhi, ON) led the Ravens in receiving with 8 catches and 10 yards. His longest of the afternoon went for 31 yards.

The Ravens return home next Saturday, September 21 to take on the York Lions (1-2) in the Throwback game. It will be Carleton’s first Homecoming in 15 years. Kick-off is 1:00PM at Ravens Field.
