OFC – Week 6
Running Back #4 Mathew Mondoux – Ottawa Sooners
Boosting his Ottawa Sooners team to a come-from-behind victory over the previously undefeated Hamilton Hurricanes by a score of 31-28, RB #4 Mathew Mondoux had 21 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns, including a surprise game winning run in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, earning Mathew the honours of Week 5 OFC Offensive Player of the Week. Mathew is 19-years old and is a second year player on the Sooners. According to the Sooners organization, Mathew played extremely well throughout the game and ran the ball hard, getting the yards they needed on the ground to keep the drives alive.
BCFC – Week 9
Quarterback #5 – Jamie Ybarra – Vancouver Island Raiders
The VI Raiders maintained their hold on top of the BCFC last weekend after they would dismantle the Westshore Rebels 54-14. Rookie quarterback Jamie Ybarra was terrific on route to his second “BC Lions Offensive Player of the Week” honour. He would complete 17 of 20 for 341 yards and three touchdown passes including a 79 yarder to Dylan Schrot. Ybarra would chip in with a carry for four yards on the ground.
PFC – Week 6
Receiver #88 – Kurt Goodrich – Winnipeg Rifles
The Winnipeg Rifles scored important home victory last weekend defeating the Edmonton Wildcats 46-24. Both quarterback Ryan Marcsh and receiver Kurt Goodrich had outstanding games to lead the charge. As a matter of fact Goodrich was named the PFC Offensive Player of the Week with eight catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns. His 217 yards ties a Canadian Junior Football League record, compiling over 200 receiving yards twice in the same season. It’s the first honour for Goodrich this season.
OFC – Week 6
Linebacker #97 Bryce Moffatt – Hamilton Hurricanes
In a tremendous effort which resulted in the Hamilton Hurricanes losing in the final seconds of the game to the surging Ottawa Sooners by a score of 31-28, LB #97 Bryce Moffatt had an excellent day for the Hurricanes defense with seven tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery, for a combined total of 18 points, earning Bryce the honours of Week 5 OFC Defensive Player of the Week. Bryce is 20-years old and is a second year player on the Hurricanes. According to the Hurricanes organization, Bryce had a solid game and is a team leader who plays with both tenacity and fire on every play.
BCFC – Week 9
Defensive Back #6 – Jacob Patko – Langley Rams
The Langley Rams would keep pace atop the BCFC standings raising their record to 6-2 on the season after a blowout defeat of the Valley Huskers; 54-7. The Rams defense was dominating led by the “BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week,” Jacob Patko. The defensive back would collect four solo tackles and two interceptions, including a 35 yard pick six, his first of the season.
PFC – Week 6
Linebacker #54 – Brett Selinger – Regina Thunder
The Regina Thunder would win their fourth game of the season over the weekend beating the Calgary Colts 13-8. The “D” was led by the PFC Defensive Player of the Week linebacker Brett Selinger who collected seven solo tackles and two assists. The win was extremely important for the Thunder as they would keep pace with the Saskatoon Hilltops for first place in the PFC.
OFC – Week 6
Receiver #20 Quinton Soares – Ottawa Sooners
Pulling double-duty on special teams to help his Ottawa Sooners football team defeat the previously unbeaten Hamilton Hurricanes by a score of 31-28, R #20 Quinton Soares had a solid overall day. As a kicker, Quinton grossed 293 yards off of six kick-offs (long 60), one field goal, and he went 4-for-4 on conversion attempts. As a returner, Quinton ran 16-yards off of one kick-off return, and 40 yards off of one punt return, for a combined total of seven points on the day, earning Quinton the honours of Week 5 OFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Quinton is only 17-years old and is a first year player on the Sooners. According to the Sooners organization, Quinton only just recently took over the kicking responsibilities and he kicked a very important field goal which kept the Sooners alive in the fourth quarter to keep Hamilton within striking distance. Quinton did a very good job with ball placement on kick-offs, which ultimately helped the Sooners cover team.
BCFC – Week 9
Returner #12 – Whitman Tomusiak – Vancouver Island Raiders
The VI Raiders haven’t used receiver Whitman Tomusiak as a primary kick returner this season, but perhaps they will start. Tomusiak has been named the “BC Lions Special Teams Player of the Week” after returning two punts for 116 yards, including an 80 yard return for touchdown.
PFC – Week 6
Kicker #10 – Brad Mikuloff – Winnipeg Rifles
A big factor in the Winnipeg Rifles victory of the Edmonton Wildcats last weekend was the play of their special teams and kicker Brad Mikuloff. He would connect on three field goals, including a 34 yarder. He would collect six kickoffs, averaging 57 yards and three punts averaging 40 yards. Mikuloff is named the PFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
