ONT (halton): Stunning comeback lifts Lords over Hawks

Without a doubt the craziest 2 minutes in recent memory helped Nelson overcome a near collapse to pull out a 30-24 win over the Loyola Hawks on Friday. Nelson started well jumping out to a 10-0 lead early but let Loyola hang around too long and had a 13-10 lead at halftime. The third quarter was not kind to Nelson as numerous mistakes allowed a confident Hawks team to race ahead 24-16 midway through the 4th quarter. Cue the comeback. With Loyola punting with under 2 minutes remaining Addison Olah blocked the punt and the recovery for a touchdown by Aidan England put the Lords behind by two. Unable to capitalize on a tying two-point convert, Nelson would recover the subsequent onside kick to set-up a game winning field goal opportunity. There would be no need for Adam Preocanin’s leg as Addison Olah ripped off a 40 yard run on the next play getting down the 1 yard line. Quarterback Tyson Delic would punch it in and hit Sam Lewis for the two point conversion to put Nelson ahead 30-24. The Lords defence shut down the Hawks attempts in the final seconds to close out one of the greatest comebacks in Nelson history.

Up next for the Lords is a trip to Georgetown and a date with the Christ the King Jags on Oct 10th at 2:30pm.
