Rouge et Or secure 11th championship

The Rouge et Or players got their hands on a Sunday 11th regular season championship RSEQ , ninth in a row, beating the Sherbrooke Vert & Or by a score of 38-3 at TELUS -Université Laval Stadium in front of 14,051 spectators.

The victory was also the 62nd consecutive home victory for Laval, a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) record, not losing. at home since September 2004.

“We did not want to prolong the pleasure , so we decided to take things in hand. We will still be in Montreal to play a great game of football this week, ” said head coach Glen Constantin.

As for the overall performance of his team, the Laval coach would have preferred a bit more bite to the attack early in the game . “For the defense and special teams , it went very well . Offensively , I think we did not understand in the first half it was a playoff game . ”

 The defensive honor

Field goals and safeties were the order of the first half.  The Rouge et Or went into the break up 13 to 3.

Laval returned hungry in the second half, scoring a touchdown on their first drive. Alex Skinner threw a 5 yard TD pass to Anthony Auclair increasing the advantage to 20-3.

Boris Bede added three more points with a placement of 44 yard field goal moments later . Then, at the end of quarter , Pascal Lochard plunged in the end zone , a one-yard leap to put Laval in control by a 30-3 mark.  A spectacular 37 -yard Julian Bailey TD from Skinner in the fourth quarter completed the scoring .

Laval quarterback Alex Skinner finished the game with 17 completions on 26 attempts and one interception for 175 yards . Skinner has also two touchdown passed.

His favorite target was Julian Bailey, four receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown . On the ground, Maxime Boutin reached almost 100 yards on 10 carries with 98 .

On defense, linebacker Masseau Mathieu had seven tackles, including two for losses and one sack . Teammate Shayne Gauthier also did well with 6.5 tackles and a sack.

The Rouge et Or complete its regular season next Saturday at 1pm when they travel to Montreal to take on the Carabins . They return to TELUS -Université Laval Stadium on November 2 to begin the playoffs. The opponent, McGill or Sherbrooke, will be determined this week.
