The Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (6-1) have plenty of right to believe that this season is their time to shine with a roster loaded with talented players led by star running back Jamel Lyles but if they hope to reach the AAA championship game for their first time in team history they’ll need to fend off last year’s runner-ups, the Vancouver College Fighting Irish (4-2).
The Irish are certainly at the right time having won three consecutive games, including beating Mt. Boucherie 34-21 in their playoff opener last Saturday, including their playoff opener 34-21 last weekend against Mt. Boucherie in a 34-21.
Vancouver College has been carried in large part this season by their three-headed monster at the running back position – Clyde Casip, Ovie Odjegba and Robbie Welch – and those three will need to have a big night again to counteract what Lyles brings to the table for the Panthers.
The Panthers only loss this season – regular season or otherwise – came at the hands of the Terry Fox Ravens in their penultimate regular season contest.
They concluded their season with a 37-6 win over the Centennial Centaurs.
This is the first meeting between the Irish and Panthers this season.
