On Thursday November 14 the Hamilton Wentworth Minor Football Association (HWMFA) held its first Grassroots Year End Gala at Michaelangelo’s Banquet Centre. The event was organized by the HWMFA Roar Club. The Roar Club is a group of parent volunteers who run all the off-field events and activities for the HWMFA. The Year End Gala was emceed by Pigskin Pete and included special guest appearances by members of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Police Chief Glenn DeCaire, and McMaster Marauder Head Coach Stephan Ptaszek. Live music was provided by Reflexion. Opening remarks were made by Dave Watkins of the CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats and HWMFA’s own Joe Sardo followed with a vision of what the future holds for the HWMFA.
The Gala was held for players in the HWMFA Fall Grassroots program. Football players from all 7 COMFL Fall Rep teams received trophies and extra awards were given to the Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Player, Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Lineman and the Tiger-Cat Award to each team. The Tiger-Cat Award was given to the player on each team the exemplified teamwork and commitment to the game as part of the CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats Play Action program.
