TORONTO – Canadian Football League Chairman Jim Lawson will assume the role of Commissioner on an interim basis effective January 9th, 2015, the league announced today.
Lawson, Chairman of the CFL’s Board of Governors, also chairs the search committee that is leading the process to identify the next Commissioner.
“Excellent candidates have come forward, and while there is no firm deadline for naming the next Commissioner, the process is going well,” Lawson said.
“I look forward to working closely with CFL President Michael Copeland, the senior staff at the CFL league office, and our clubs across the country, to continue our efforts to accelerate the growth of our league and plan for the 2015 season.”
By mutual agreement, Mark Cohon will officially step down as the league’s Commissioner on January 9th, 2015. Cohon previously announced last August that he would not be seeking another term as Commissioner.
