Week 5 is completed in both in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC).
Among the OVFL winners are London Jr Mustangs, Cumberland Panthers, Essex Ravens, West Durham Dolphins, Ottawa Myers Riders, Etobicoke Eagles, Niagara Spears and Toronto Thunder.
Meanwhile, Toronto Jr Argos, Brantford Bisons, Huronia Stallions, Peterborough Wolverines, Guelph Jr. Gryphons, Oakville Titans and Burlington Stampeders won their games this past weekend.
Here is a roundup of Week 5 action in both the OVFL and OFC:

LONDON JR. MUSTANGS 52, SAULT (SSM) SABRECATS 8:
On Saturday afternoon at Superior Heights Secondary School Tazie Vang Bell scored a touchdown and rushed for 116 yards on four carries as the London Jr. Mustangs crushed the Sault (SSM) Sabrecats 52-8.
Brian Garrity added a 12 yard field goal and seven PAT’s in the win. Cole Pelacek completed seven passes in 13 attempts for 73 passing yards, 51 rushing yards and four passing touchdowns.
On defence, Tamurie Bringi caught two interceptions and had four solo and two assisted tackles for the Jr. Mustangs.
CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 56, METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 0:
At Esther Shriner Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the Cumberland Panthers earned a 56-0 victory over the Metro Toronto Wildcats.
For the Wildcats, David Weldon guided the defence with 10 solo and seven assisted tackles in the loss.
ESSEX RAVENS 31, HAMILTON IRONMEN 3:
On Saturday at St. Thomas of Villanova Secondary School, Jacob Savoni tallied a major and rushed for 152 yards on 17 carries as the Essex Ravens dismantled the Hamilton Ironmen 31-3.
Wes Tolson dashed into the end zone for a score and rushed for 101 yards on 17 carries for the Ravens. Michael Herzog scored a touchdown off a punt return.
Brian Paonessa added a 21 yard field goal and was successful on four conversion attempts.
WEST DURHAM DOLPHINS 49, HALTON COWBOYS 34:
At Jean Vanier Catholic School on Saturday afternoon, Cristian Claros-Ayala registered four solo and nine assisted tackles as the West Durham Dolphins defeated Halton Cowboys 49-34.
OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 42, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 27:
On Saturday afternoon at Beckwith Sports Facility, Ottawa Myers Riders cruised to a 42-27 win over Oshawa Hawkeyes.
For the Hawkeyes, pivot David Maecker completed 14 passes in 25 attempts for 258 yards and a passing touchdown.
Jelani Yorke racked up 113 yards on four receptions while Matt Hurley had 74 yards on four receptions. Jacob Hill added three PAT’s.
Liam Potter led the Hawkeyes defence as he caught an interception and converted it into a touchdown. Additionally, he registered six solo and nine assisted tackles. Dawson Theriault added seven solo and four assisted tackles in the loss.
ETOBICOKE EAGLES 49, MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 21:
At Loyola Catholic Secondary School on Saturday afternoon, Samuel Conteh scored three touchdowns and rushed for 196 yards on 14 carries as the Etobicoke Eagles defeated Mississauga Warriors 49-21.
Horatio Martin tallied two majors and rushed for 192 yards on 17 carries for the Eagles. Keegan Dicks added three PAT’s.
Pivot Khalil Wilson completed five passes in eight attempts for 44 yards and two passing touchdowns in the win.
Avery Oitomen tallied a major and rushed for 68 yards on 13 carries for the Warriors. Moreover, Adam Seftel had a 40 yard reception while Jonathan Keizer racked up 55 yards on four receptions.
George-Anthony Kotselidis completed 12 passes in 20 completions for 142 passing yards in the loss. Sean Paquette was successful on three conversion attempts.
NIAGARA SPEARS 25, CAMBRIDGE LIONS 12:
On Saturday evening at Jacob Hespeler Field, OPC wide receiver Cole Burniston scored two touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards on 10 carries as the visiting Niagara Spears pulled out a 25-12 victory over hosts Cambridge Lions.
Maksym Nazartchyk tallied two majors and rushed for 78 yards on 12 carries in the win. Hayden Riley added a 38 yard field goal, three PAT’s and a rouge.
As for the Lions, Joshua Nikolic racked up 66 yards on four receptions while Ben Quesnel had 65 yards on three receptions. Andrew Ager added a 22 yard field goal and a PAT.
Andrew Horscroft completed nine passes in 20 attempts for 142 passing yards.
Jack Hinsperger led the Lions defence as he recorded a solo sack as well as nine solo and eight assisted tackles.
TORONTO THUNDER 29, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 14:
At St. Maximillian Kolbe CHS on Saturday night, Shedler Fervius tallied two majors, racked up 115 yards on five receptions as well as four PAT’s and a rouge as the Toronto Thunder defeated the York Simcoe Bucs 29-14.
Denzel Annan scored a touchdown and had 59 yards on six receptions for the Thunder. Vayi Yomo rushed for 140 yards on 17 carries in the victory.
Pivot Elijah Blake completed 12 passes in 21 attempts for 183 yards and three touchdown passes.
OPC participant Chris Sabat led the defence as he recorded a solo and two assisted sacks. He also registered four solo and five assisted tackles as well as a batted ball. Sevion DeCosta had a batted ball as well as four solo and four assisted tackles. Markcus-Jean Loescher forced a fumble, had a batted ball as well as four solo and five assisted tackles.
For the Bucs, Ben Langlois completed 14 passes in 32 attempts for 164 yards and two passing touchdowns in the loss. Jayden Thompson had 39 yards on two receptions. John-Kurt Andreacchi was successful on two conversion attempts.

In the Jr. varsity game it was a battle of two unbeaten teams for first place in the Ramsay Conference. The Crimson Tide started the scoring with a long TD run on the first offensive play of the game to put the Wolverines behind for the first time this season. The Wolverines came back strong and lead 21-10 at the half and continued to dominate the rest of the game giving up a TD late in the contest for the convincing 39-16 win. Scoring for the Wolverines with two TD’s each were Cameron Gilmore and Nick Clarkin. Keegan Crough score a TD and converted 5 PAT Kicks and added a 20 yd. Field Goal.
GUELPH GRYPHONS 31, HAMILTON HURRICANES 24:
RECAP AND GAME SUMMARY BY JOHN METCALFE
A seesaw affair between the Jr. Gryphons and Hurricanes saw the defending champs drop their first game of the season. Hamilton hit the scoreboard first as Zack Beno found Mark Randazzo from 13 yards away with Jabob Patten adding the extra point. The Jr. Gryphons responded as Riley Boersma latched on to a Dakota Brown strike from 11 yards. Michael Bobak’s convert evened the score. After a conceded safety touch gave Guelph the lead, Boersma wound his way to the end zone on a 60 yard punt return and Bobak’s convert gave the Griffs a nine point lead. Savaughn Magnaye Jones and Beno then hooked up from 43 yards out with Patten converting to get the ‘Canes with two, however, Guelph responded with a drive capped by a one yard plunge by Jackson Taylor and Bobak conversion to restore the 9 point spread. The Hurricanes then replied with a Jacob Patten 31 yard field goal and then took the lead when Patten and Beno hooked up from 19 yards away and Patten’s convert gave the ‘Canes a narrow 24-23 lead. The Gryphons came right back with Taylor finding the end zone from two yards out. Brown found Tommy Nield for the 2 point convert which gave Guelph the seven point win. The Gryphons improved to 4-0 while the ‘Canes dropped to 3-1.
This coming week sees the Hurricanes with a bye, but, the extra time will be needed as they host the undefeated Burlington Stampeders on July 3rd with an 8:00 p.m. kickoff.
