The final push before the postseason is underway in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC).
Mississauga Warriors, Toronto Thunder, Ottawa Myers Riders, York Simcoe Bucs, Oshawa Hawkeyes, Niagara Spears, Etobicoke Eagles and London Jr Mustangs all won their games this past weekend in the OVFL.
Equally, Forest City Thunderbirds, North Halton Crimson Tide, Guelph Jr Gryphons, Hamilton Hurricanes, Huronia Stallions and Peterborough Wolverines were victorious in the OFC.
Here are the results from Week 8 action in both the OVFL and OFC:

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):
MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 33, HAMILTON IRONMEN 25:
RECAP BY JOHN METCALFE
Warriors led 14-9 at the half on touchdown passes from George Anthony Koselidis hitting Jonathan Keizer and Josiah McKoy from 33 yards and 18 yards respectively. Sean Paquette converted both. Kenny Pecyna and pivot Anthony Pimental teamed from 25 yards for Hamilton’s major with Ethen Bastarache’s convert. The defence tackled a Warrior ball carrier in the end zone for the other points. The second half did not start well for the Ironmen as Lucase Prete returned an interception 45 yards for the score followed by Malik Gardner’s 3 yard run. Ironmen responded with a 18 yard Bastarache field goal and then Bastarache and Pimental hooked up for a 15 yard scoring playing with Bastarache booting the convert. Isaiah Joseph then barged in from 4 yards away for Hamilton to make it close, but, the 2 point convert was not successful. Matthew Seftel closed things out for the Warriors returning an interception 60 yards to the end zone. Like the Varsity Warriors, the Junior Varsity improve to 3-4 and keep their wildcard hopes alive as well.
TORONTO THUNDER 30, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 22:
At Loyalist Collegiate on Saturday afternoon, Keondre Smith scored two touchdowns and amassed 147 yards on seven receptions as the Toronto Thunder defeated the Kingston Grenadiers 30-22.
Emmanuel Beals added a score off a 75 yard kickoff return.
Elijah Blake completed 10 passes in 14 attempts for 214 yards and two passing touchdowns.
Ontario Prospect Challenge participant Chris Sabat recorded two solo and an assisted tackle. Also, he registered three solo and 11 assisted tackles. Deionte Knight added one solo and two assisted tackles. Additionally, he added three solo and 12 assisted tackles. Markcus Jean-Loescher recorded an assisted solo as well as three solo and 10 assisted tackles in the win.
As for the Grenadiers, Connor Rafferty added a PAT and a rouge. Chad Stymest recorded a solo sack as well as six solo and six assisted tackles.
OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 43, METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 7:
On Saturday afternoon at Esther Shriner Stadium, Jean-Paul Cimankinda continued his invincible season as he tallied four majors and rushed for 183 yards on 14 carries as the Ottawa Myers Riders crushed the Metro Toronto Wildcats 43-7.
Hayden Tripp also scored a touchdown and rushed for 91 yards on 10 carries. Owen Clement racked up 84 yards on three reception, six PAT’s and a rouge for the Myers Riders.
Pivot Brayden Lassenba completed seven passes in eight attempts for 143 yards and a rushing touchdown.
On defence, Blake Thompson recorded a solo sack as well as four solo and 14 assisted tackles in the win.
Daniel Solaroli had the lone touchdown for the Wildcats and rushed for 145 yards on 26 carries.
YORK SIMCOE BUCS 49, HALTON COWBOYS 21:
At St. Maximillian Kolbe CHS on Saturday afternoon, Ben Langlois completed 17 passes in 29 attempts for 263 yards and four passing touchdowns as the York Simcoe Bucs cruised to a 49-21 win over Halton Cowboys.
Ron Boshoer tallied two majors and rushed for 107 yards on 22 carries. Michael Georgiopoulos scored a touchdown and rushed for 78 yards on four carries. Cameron Clarke added a 70 yard touchdown reception for the Bucs. Danny McWhirter added two PAT’s.
OSHAWA HAWKEYES 27, WEST DURHAM DOLPHINS 7:
On Saturday early evening at Oshawa Civic Stadium, Jelani Yorke scored a touchdown and amassed 106 yards on five receptions as the Oshawa Hawkeyes dismantled the West Durham Dolphins 27-7.
Pivot David Maeckler completed 13 passes in 25 attempts for 197 yards and two passing touchdowns in the win. Jacob Hill was successful on three conversion attempts.
On defence, Liam Potter caught an interception as well as added four solo and six assisted tackles for the Hawkeyes.
As for the Dolphins, Jamar Berry scored a touchdown and racked up 81 yards on 12 receptions. OPC participant Rasheed Tucker rushed for 96 yards on 13 carries in the loss. Adam Risbey added a PAT.
NIAGARA SPEARS 59, SAULT (SSM) SABRECATS 7:
At Kiwanis Field on Saturday early evening, Travis Arp completed 15 passes in 19 attempts for 270 yards and five passing touchdowns as the Niagara Spears thrashed the Sault (SSM) Sabrecats 59-7.
Joshua Ferguson scored two touchdowns and rushed for 76 yards on two carries. Hayden Riley tallied a major and had 67 yards on three receptions as well as a 27 yard field goal and eight PAT’s for the Spears.
Jacob Andrews guided the defence as he caught an interception, recorded an assisted sack as well as three solo and two assisted tackles in the win.
ETOBICOKE EAGLES 26, BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 21:
On Sunday afternoon at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School, Horatio Martin scored two touchdowns and rushed for 141 yards on 14 carries as the Etobicoke Eagles got by Brampton Bulldogs 26-21.
Marcel Grant also tallied a major and racked up 75 yards on four receptions in the win. Pivot Khalil Wilson completed eight passes in 16 attempts for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Keegan Dicks added a PAT and a rouge.
On defence, Ife Oynemenam led the way as he recorded a solo sack as well as four solo and eight assisted tackles.
LONDON JR MUSTANGS 31, CAMBRIDGE LIONS 13:
At Laurier University Alumni Stadium, Chase Brown tallied three majors (two rushing and a receiving), rushed for 139 yards on 11 carries and racked up 115 yards on three receptions as the London Jr Mustangs cruised to a 31-13 win over Cambridge Lions.
Cole Pelacek completed 10 passes in 21 attempts for 177 yards and a passing touchdown for the Jr Mustangs. Brian Garrity added a 33 yard field goal and four PAT’s.

The Junior Varsity unit also downed the Predators 34-17 on July 11th. This runs their record to 5-2 on the season. They will make the trip to Chatham Kent to take on the Kougars on July 19th at 4:00 p.m. to close out the regular season. It is most likely that they will finish 3rd in the South division and thus will most likely play at Burlington on July 26th in the first round of the playoffs.

PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 30, TORONTO JR ARGOS 28:
GAME RECAP BY PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES
The JV’s escaped with a thrilling 30-28 victory to end their regular season undefeated at 8-0. They have clinched first place and will be the #1 seed for the playoffs and will host the #4 seed on the weekend of July 25. The actual opponent and game details will be announced soon. Both teams played hard and battled back and forth throughout the entire game. The Wolverines lead 8-3 at the half and the Jr. Argos came on strong in the fourth quarter outscoring the Wolverines 19-15 to close the gap for the final score of 30-28. Congratulations to the Wolverines on an outstanding regular season. Scoring for the Wolverines were Nick Clarkin with 2 TD’s and single TD’s by Cameron Gilmore and Ryan McNamara. Keegan Crough converted four PAT kicks and had two singles.
