Montreal – The Montreal Carabins will be reunited with CEPSUM this Friday night for the first time since winning the Vanier Cup last November. A special ceremony will be held at 7:00pm to celebrate this achievement. For all Carabins fans, this is a unique opportunity to celebrate their favorite tream and start the new season.
Hosted by Sébastien Benoit, a great supporter Carabins and graduate of the University of Montreal, this presentation will stage some special moments of this historic victory. Sylvie Desgroseilliers will then perform the national anthem.
Game sold out
The game will be preceded by the traditional tailgate, which has become a fixture on campus, where fans can be photographed with the Vanier Cup. People are however encouraged to enter early so they don’t miss out on the festivities. Note that the first 2500 spectators through the turnstiles can get their hands on a piece of memorabilia from the 2014 Vanier Cup by obtaining a game program.
Note that the wickets are closed for this anticipated game because all the tickets had already been sold out since Tuesday night. The Carabins will therefore play to a packed house of 5,100 spectators for a sixth consecutive season opener.
“I think it is a victory that touched our fans, especially those who have followed the team since its inception in 2002, emphasized the Carabins Head Coach Danny Maciocia. “With the pre-game festivities, we just want to thank them for their support. ”
Despite all the festivities that will launch the 2015 season, the opening game is still as special for Carabins players.
“It’s all exciting time to play in front of our crowd,” said Carabins third year linebacker Alex Cromer-Edmond. “We know it will be full and we want to deliver a good performance.”
“We feel that everyone is more excited on campus. I think winning last year gave us a good platform and I think that football is now more popular at Universite de Montreal. ”
Duel on the mountain
Happy to find their supporters, the Carabins have won their last seven home openers. This time it will be the McGill Redmen who will try to end that streak. The Redmen earned a 10-3 victory last Friday against the Bishop’s Gaiters.
“We have to show up on Friday evening,” said Maciocia. “We know that we face a team that is very good defensively and had a good game last week.”
“On offence, they rely on a good receiver Louis Brouillette. Their running back Luis Guimont-Mota is also back. We are aware that they will want hand over the ball. ”
For their part, the Carabins are back from their trip to Quebec after a 12-9 defeat at the hands of the Laval Rouge et Or. A successful field goal in the last second sealed the victory for the Rouge et Or.
