Receiver Liam Grace, of Winnipeg’s Murdoch MacKay Clansmen, is the latest recruit to announce a commitment to the University of Manitoba for the class of 2016. The 6’1″, 170# receiver was a key member of the provincial U-18 team at last year’s Canada Cup before being one of the top receivers in the WHSFL this year.
Bison Recruiting Co-Ordinator Chris Clement praised Liam’s hands. “As a receiver, the ability to catch the ball is a non-negotiable skill. With Liam there is no doubt about that. He tracks the ball well and catches it every time, which is a clear sign of a young man who has put in a lot of work on his own time.”
Manitoba Head Coach Brian Dobie talked about the legacy that comes with Liam’s background. “The Murdoch program in Winnipeg’s Transcona neighbourhood has been a great pipeline of talent for the Bisons over the past few years and Liam is a continuation of that. With six recruits in the last three years we expect Liam to follow in the great success of his teammates and establish himself in our receiving group.”
Liam’s excitement about this decision was palpable.
”I love the exciting, fast-paced style of offence, and the direction the team is headed as a whole. From the university itself to the coaching to the team facilities everything was simply a perfect fit for me and I can’t wait to get started and grow as a person and as a player in the Bisons program.”
Bison Receivers Coach Blair Atkinson is familiar with Liam’s skillset. ”Liam is a great addition to our receiving corps. He is a smart route runner and has the ability to make all the tough catches. His blocking in the run game makes him a very well rounded receiver coming out of high school.”
