We keep telling you to expect the unexpected this season, and it’s for a good reason.

After years of domination by Tantramar in New Brunswick and Citadel in Nova Scotia, we finally have a new set of kings in the Atlantic. We’ll begin with an enthralling matchup as Saint John got their hands on the New Brunswick provincial banner after defeating Kennebecasis in a thrilling 27-24 victory. The Greyhounds dropped their regular season contest 24-20 back on September 26th, but wouldn’t be denied the second time around en route to their first Nick Disilets Memorial Trophy since 2003, and the fifth in program history.
Next door we saw Auburn Drive complete the dream season defeating Bay View 30-20 in the Nova Scotia provincial finals, but it wasn’t a straight forward affair. The Eagles perfect record was in doubt going into the fourth quarter trailing 20-8, then a miracle occurred as they scored 22 unanswered points to secure their first ever provincial banner. It’s a poetic way to cap off their fairy tale run this year, and now the question is whether we will witness new dynasties unfold or is the parity here to stay? We hope it’s the latter, but know Auburn Drive and Saint John will rightfully be looking to write a new chapter in Atlantic football history.
We head across the country to Saskatchewan for our next championship showdown where Miller were able to hold on for a 28-24 victory against Holy Cross to earn their second banner since 2018. It looked like it was going to be a walk in the park for the Marauders, but the Crusaders fought back valiantly from a 21-0 deficit to tie the game after halftime before falling in the final moments. It brings an end to a fantastic year of football in Saskatchewan where Miller, LeBoldus, Holy Cross and St. Joseph provided weekly drama that we hope continues next season.
We now travel to Quebec where all eyes were on the final four programs left standing, and they didn’t disappoint with a pair of results that matched the rest of their chaotic season. In our first matchup, College Notre-Dame and Saint-Jean-Eudes went down to the wire with either team capable of coming out on top, but in the end the Cactus were ahead 15-14 when the final whistle blew to earn their spot in the Juvenile DI Bol d’Or. Meanwhile on the other side of the bracket, Charles-Lemoyne proved their regular season victory was no fluke as they downed Seminaire-Saint-Francois for the second time by a score of 40-0. It’s a little bit of a warning shot for College Notre-Dame, but we expect another tight championship bout after the Cactus edged out a 24-23 victory over the Dynamiques in week two.

We’ve finally got playoff action to report from British Columbia, and there were little issues for our CFC50 programs as they prepare for battle against one another in the quarterfinals. Notre Dame, Mount Douglas, G.W. Graham and Lord Tweedsmuir combined for a dominating wild card weekend outscoring their opponents 144-27, which is an example of the boundary between the good and elite schools in the province. Now we get to the fun part of the season as Terry Fox take on Kelowna, Vancouver College battle Centennial, Notre Dame take on Lord Tweedsmuir and Mount Douglas test their strength against G.W. Graham.
Next up is the beast that is Ontario where trophies are being handed out like candy across the province, including Ottawa where the St. Mark Lions put an exclamation mark on their perfect season with a 29-3 victory over St. Joseph in the city finals.
We saw a pair of championships handed out in the Niagara region as A.N. Myer got the job done once again on the public side with a 22-13 win over Sir Winston Churchill in the NRHSAA finals, while Notre Dame snagged another NCAA trophy on the catholic side defeating Saint Paul by a score of 30-10. They will now do battle one more time in the Zone Championship to determine the true champion of the Niagara region with the catholic side holding the upper hand in recent years after a run of dominance by A.N. Myer thanks to the CFC100 Ford twins.
It was North Park once again who came out on top in their AABHN title bout against St. John’s with a massive 27-0 blowout to complete their perfect season. Then our final title handed out this week was in Northern Ontario where Korah extended their reign on the NOSSA region with a 37-0 shutout over Algonquin. The Colts now prepare for one last battle with a matchup against St. Ignatius out of Thunder Bay on the horizon in the OFSAA Northern Bowl. Next week get ready for more championship news as top ranked St. Thomas More take on their rivals from Cardinal Newman, and St. Roch look to sweep Peel in their title matchup against perennial OFSAA contenders Lorne Park.
Lastly we end with a bit of news out of Alberta as Raymond and Lethbridge were both successful in their provincial semifinals matchups, and now will meet in the South Championship to settle the score with the winner advancing to the Regional Based Tier 1 Championship. Also make sure to stay tuned to your social media feeds tonight as Grant Park take on Vincent Massey in the highly anticipated WHSFL DI Finals.

Who’s getting ranked?
For the tenth year in a row, Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) is pleased to bring you the national high school football rankings known as the CFC50.
The CFC50 rankings considers all conference and non-conference games (in Canada and the United States) while scrimmages are not evaluated (there is no such thing as an exhibition game – those are classified as non-conference games) and forfeit* wins are not considered towards overall record.
How is the CFC50 evaluated?
Leagues included in rankings: British Columbia AAA Varsity, Alberta Tier One, Saskatchewan 12-man rural / 6A / Schwann, Manitoba AAA Varsity, Ontario OFSAA Bowl AAA qualified teams, Quebec Juvenile Division 1, New Brunswick 12-man, Nova Scotia (all teams excluding CFC25 eligible teams).
The CFC50 is a RELATIVE RANKING that considers top tier leagues from all eight high school playing provinces (minimum one team represented from each province) and the strength of the league. Additional criteria used to determine the relative ranking are the ability to accomplish winning a championship, the impact players and performers on that team (ie. CFC100s, CDN All-Stars etc.), and a team’s coaching and recent tradition.
The CFC Scouting Bureau consists of CFC Reporters, CFC Scouts, and selected local reporters and scouts who submit local ranking results on a weekly basis. The CFC50 is released every Monday (other than on Holidays) at 12 noon.
