We don’t know who’s responsible, but something is up with the Atlantic waters this season because another perennial powerhouse has fallen.
It’s been a long time since anyone has typed these words, but Auburn Drive was able to pull off the upset over Citadel in a 38-9 blowout. It was not what anyone had scripted going into this matchup with Citadel suffering their first loss in 45 games, and now it looks like their seventh straight Nova Scotia provincial title could be in jeopardy. Their dominance in the region can not be understated winning 11 of the past 12 championships, but maybe we’ll crown a new king this season?
Our next stop is in Quebec where they couldn’t resist shaking up the rankings one last time before the playoffs begin. With Seminaire-Saint-Francois taking down College Notre-Dame in a tight 14-7 affair, plus Charles-Lemoyne and Saint-Jean-Eudes taking care of business, it means all four programs end the season in a deadlock atop the division. Of course tiebreakers took care of the seeding, but it’s impossible to predict which one of these teams will hoist the banner. It’s been a headache for the rankings, but we may not witness another season like this for a very long time.
We move from the logjam in Quebec to the one in Saskatchewan, but this is the last week we will be able to say that. LeBoldus and Miller both handled their opponents in the semifinals, which means we finally get the coveted rubber match at Mosaic Stadium this Friday to decide the champions of Regina. On the other side of the province, we have the exact same scenario unfolding as St. Joseph and Holy Cross prepare to battle for the Saskatoon city title. No more chatter about who’s the best, we are about to find out.
It’s also championship time in Alberta as we get another highly anticipated rematch between Harry Ainlay and Salisbury in the Edmonton city finals. For those with a good memory, you’ll remember the Titans squeezed by earlier in the year with a 35-30 victory over the Sabres, but throw all records out the window because anything can happen when the teams arrive at Commonwealth Stadium.
There’s not much to report out of B.C. this week other than domination by the ranked squads over their opponents. They only have one week left of regular season action before the playoff brackets will be set as they race towards B.C. Place. The same can be said with Ontario as most leagues begin to wrap up their regular season campaign, while two new programs make their first appearance on the rankings as North Park took down former top 50 Assumption in Brantford, and Resurrection out of Kitchener continue to impress with their victory over St. Benedict. Lastly Sir Wilfrid Laurier out of London lost to Parkside, who may be a team to watch down the road.

Who’s getting ranked?
For the tenth year in a row, Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) is pleased to bring you the national high school football rankings known as the CFC50.
The CFC50 rankings considers all conference and non-conference games (in Canada and the United States) while scrimmages are not evaluated (there is no such thing as an exhibition game – those are classified as non-conference games) and forfeit* wins are not considered towards overall record.
How is the CFC50 evaluated?
Leagues included in rankings: British Columbia AAA Varsity, Alberta Tier One, Saskatchewan 12-man rural / 6A / Schwann, Manitoba AAA Varsity, Ontario OFSAA Bowl AAA qualified teams, Quebec Juvenile Division 1, New Brunswick 12-man, Nova Scotia (all teams excluding CFC25 eligible teams).
The CFC50 is a RELATIVE RANKING that considers top tier leagues from all eight high school playing provinces (minimum one team represented from each province) and the strength of the league. Additional criteria used to determine the relative ranking are the ability to accomplish winning a championship, the impact players and performers on that team (ie. CFC100s, CDN All-Stars etc.), and a team’s coaching and recent tradition.
The CFC Scouting Bureau consists of CFC Reporters, CFC Scouts, and selected local reporters and scouts who submit local ranking results on a weekly basis. The CFC50 is released every Monday (other than on Holidays) at 12 noon.
