#CFC50 game preview (ON): Marauders and Warriors will duke it out at Alumni Stadium

On Friday, September 16th, the No. 6 ranked A.N. Myer Marauders will square off against the No. 9 ranked Huron Heights Warriors at the University of Guelph’s Alumni Stadium.

The Marauders are well-prepared for the Warriors this week, but they realize this is a tough matchup.

“Last week’s game against CCH went very well with minor mistakes as expected for a game so early in the season,” said Marauders Special Teams Coordinator/Offensive Assistant Rob Colosimo. “The Warriors are not a team we take lightly, knowing their history of success at OFSAA like ourselves.”

They have a game plan in place in order to shut down the Warriors’ offence. The Marauders know which offensive strategy they need to use against their opponent. “We know that to stop their offence we must remain patient and be disciplined,” said Colosimo. “To score against them, we will need to continue to utilize our speed and athleticism to our advantage,” said Colosimo.

They were missing a few starters last week and again this week, but a few others will be returning from injury which should help. Colosimo predicts that it will be a great game.

“It will be an exciting game for the kids under the lights at Guelph University, getting to showcase their talents for the scouts and fans there. Good luck to both teams.”

For the Warriors, this is a significant game.

“For us, this is a big-time game,” said Warriors Head Coach Heath Weir. “We’ll play anyone, anyplace, anytime. We know how good A.N. Myer is and this will be a huge game for our program!”

The team got better at a number of positions as a result of a solid week of practice. However, containing the Marauders’ offence will be a daunting task.

tre-ford

“A.N. Myer’s QB Tre Ford is a special athlete, and with a plethora of weapons on offence, it will take a herculean effort to slow them down,” said Weir.

Stopping them defensively will be difficult as well. “Defensively, A.N. Myer doesn’t seem to have any weaknesses,” said Weir. “We’re going to have to get creative to figure them out.”

Some players are expected to break out this week.

“We’re hoping to see a number of players emerge,” said Weir. “We are very excited to see what new seniors’ Jayden Thompson and Michael Grey bring to the table.”

The Warriors have a couple #CFC100 players on their team: DB Danny McWhirter and OL Mathew Goodall. There are a few things that the Warriors will need to do to maximize their chances of securing a victory.

“Trying to limit the big plays on offence and special teams, while finding a way to move the ball on their defence,” said Coach Weir who is eagerly anticipating Friday’s matchup.

“This will be our first game this season. This will be two heavyweights getting in the ring and throwing bombs at each other! If you want to finish ranked #1 in the province, you have to win every game. For us, the 2016 campaign starts this Friday.”
