Huskies welcome one local and one Saskatchewan commit to their 2019 class.
The new season couldn’t come fast enough for newly minted University of Saskatchewan Huskies, CFC100 Ramsey Derbas, a linebacker from Holy Cross High School, and D’Sean Mimbs, a receiver from Winston Knoll Collegiate.

When the 2019 U Sports season rolls around, Ramsey Derbas won’t be going anywhere. A resident of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Derbas said he committed to the Huskies because “they have all the pieces from coaches to players. It will be the best place for me to grow as a football player and a person.”
He added that, “The coaching staff is great. I believe in Head Coach Scott Flory and what he’s doing as well as everyone else. You are surrounded by knowledge and ex-CFLers like Coach Warren Mudizka and Jerry Friensen.”
Standing at 6’1, 210lbs, Derbas has played with the Holy Cross Crusaders (SSSAD) and the U17 South Saskatchewan Selects. In his five years playing, Derbas has won a city championship in grade 10 and was a special teams MVP. He also received an award for being the most outstanding graduate with the Crusaders. He will be entering the Edwards School of Business.

D’Sean Mimbs

Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, D’Sean Mimbs is ready to come back to the province of his birth after a prep school stint in the Untied States. “I chose to commit to U of S because it’s close to home and the coaching staff and players are all really good, so I see a very successful future with them,” he said.
“The coaching staff is full of retired CFL players and they all have really good football sense, so I know I will learn much more about the game being coached by them.”
Unsure as to what to take in university, Mimbs will be taking arts and sciences in his first semester. “(It’s) to see what I like and figure out what I will want tot take after the first semester,” he said.
The 6’1, 165lbs slotback began his career with Regina Minor Football for both the Bombers and Huskies. He then joined his high school team, the Winston Knoll Wolverines (RHSAA). After that, he moved to Birmingham, Alabama, to play football with a prep school. His entire career has spanned ten years. While with the Wolverines, he was named as offensive player of the year and senior athlete of the year.
Itching to start the 2019 season, Mimbs said, “I am very excited to have committed to the Huskies because it has been a very long recruiting process for me and I can’t wait to touch the field with them.”
