To open the 2016 Football Canada Cup, new look Alberta, under rookie head coach Chris Morris, defeated Nova Scotia by a final score of 32-6. Quarterback Tae Gordon (Cochrane) led the way for Alberta with a pair of touchdown strikes including a 75-yard major to receiver Prince Kivia (Henry Wise Wood), who made a spectacular catch to haul in the pass. Following the long touchdown strike, an interception by Alberta defensive back Beko Wande stopped the Nova Scotia attack dead in its tracks on route to the victory.
“We got a working class group of guys,” said Alberta coach Chris Morris. “We kept playing, kept coming, our o-line comes off the ball, and we run the ball hard. It was a good win.”

In the second game of the 2016 Canada Cup, Ontario overpowered New Brunswick, to a 55-0 win.
Led by two opening half Chase Brown touchdowns, Ontario took a 35-point advantage into halftime. Brown marked his third rushing major of the game to make the final score 55-0.
“There was definitely a bad taste in the mouth last year,” said Ontario coach Glen Mills. “I still think we had the best team in tournament, unfortunately we came up a little bit short.

The home province’s top team put up a great fight but fell to last year’s bronze medalist by a final score of 11-0. The game was a hard-hitting, defensive affair as both squads failed to score a touchdown. Kicker David Solie marked all but two of Saskatchewan’s 11 points.
Saskatchewan’s head coach Sheldon Gray was pleased with his team’s effort.
“The defence played really well,” said Gray. “They’re pretty hard-hitting and we kind of just weathered the storm there at the end.”

The tournament’s defending champions started out slow, but found their rhythm late in the opening quarter on their way to a 38 point halftime lead. They added a pair of second half touchdowns to make the final score a 52-0 shutout over Manitoba Silver.
“Our execution was kinda poor tonight, ” said Iadeluca. “I think we counted 10 busts on 40 plays, so we need to be much better on offence.”
Kevin Mitale and William Marchand caught touchdowns in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring for the Quebecers.
Manitoba Silver is composed of mainly players from Thunder Bay and nine players from Manitoba and felt they made Quebec work.
