Huskies add an international commit to their 2019 class.
Lukáš Bočkay has already made a big decision in his young football career, and now he has taken an even larger step after signing with the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
Bočkay has only played football for three years. Before that he was a rugby player. Originally from Piestany, Slovakia, he joined the Bratislava Monarchs (AFL). He then moved to Finland to join the Seinäjoki Crocodiles (FML/EFL). Now, he will be heading across the Atlantic to pursue his dreams further.
He said he chose SMU because of the football program, the university and the coaching staff. He added that both the staff and the team’s quarterback are from the Czech Republic.
“I really like them,” Bočkay said of the staff. “Very kind people. I had long phone calls with the head coach himself and also with Coach Lothian. I like them a lot.”
Standing at a towering 6’8, 305lbs, the tackle is a former junior bobsleigher and water polo player. He also is a self-described gym rat. While with the Monarchs, the future psychology student won a Slovak Bowl and the AFL.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
