Mississauga defensive standouts recently join OUA team’s 2014 class.
Two Mississauga defensive standouts are Kingston bound.
D’Antal Sampson and Nicolas Fraser-Greene recently committed to the Queen’s Golden Gaels. Both players will join the team for the 2014 OUA season.
D’ANTAL SAMPSON:
There were four main factors as to why the 5’10, 210 pound linebacker from Mississauga, Ontario decided on the Golden Gaels.
“I chose Queen’s because they give me the total package – world-class academics, great football, great coaches and great people,” explained Sampson of his decision. “When I got to meet the coaches they seemed like they were truly motivated to bring out the best in all of their athletes on and off the field.”
“The family feel of the program and high quality facilities ultimately lead to me making the decision to spend my university career at Queen’s.”
Sampson joins the Golden Gaels after a successful career with Lorne Park Spartans of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA). This past season, the linebacker led the Spartans to both the OFSAA Bowl and ROPSSAA Championship titles.
The Mississauga linebacker will play a significant role in the Golden Gaels plans strengthen the defensive unit.
“D’Antal is a classic “in the box linebacker” who can fill on the inside run and he flows well to the perimeter,” commented Golden Gaels Head Coach Pat Sheahan. “He is smart, very fast and agile.”
“He is a great hitter and a leader. He is also a real student of the game. This was a year when we needed to secure several great young linebackers to help rebuild our defense and D’Antal will be a big part our future.”
NICHOLAS FRASER-GREENE:
The 5’10, 170 pound defensive back recently completed his high school career with Angels of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA). Moreover, he has suited up for the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL)
By virtue of his commitment to the Golden Gaels, he will be reunited with Angels’ teammate and CFC TOP 100 pivot Nate Hobbs.
“Nick is a very good athlete with a variety of desirable skills,” said Sheahan. “He is a solid performer on either side of the LOS.”
“He resembles Queen’s All-Canadian corner back TJ Chase in stature. He plays very tough and physical. He is also a very capable receiver and will be joining his high school quarterback Nate Hobbs at training camp this year at Queen’s. He is a great acquisition for our program.”
