Limping into the postseason

OVFL JV: Wildcats limp into playoffs

In spite of a disappointing loss this past weekend, the junior varsity Metro Toronto Wildcats have successfully locked up the final league playoff spot. The team was defeated 17-12 by crosstown rivals, the Toronto Thunder.

With the loss, the Wildcats finished the regular season with a  4-4 record.

The JV Wildcats have been dealing with an injury bug lately and as a result, were not able to take down the Thunder. Moreover, the Wildcats lost defensive standouts Luc Babin and Damoy Searchwell to injuries.

The offense was able to operate, but were not able to maintain the same level without regular quarterback Jack Vernon. Cole MacFarlane was able to lead several drives; however,  the team was not able to score on many of them.

The Wildcats will have their work cut out for them as they head to Pickering to take on the 5-3 Dolphins.

The loss is somewhat a blessing in disguise as they won’t have to take on the 7-1 Cumberland Panthers instead of the Dolphins. Regardless of the opponent, the Wildcats will need to get healthy if they have any chance of making it to the next round of the playoffs. Watch for big performances by running back Brandon Inniss who has had a great season and is one of the few Wildcats to remain healthy.

The game will take place at 4:00PM at Kinsmen Park.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
