McMaster’s D’Aguilar sets CIS single-season sack record

OTTAWA– Ben D’Aguilar from the McMaster University Marauders had one quarterback sack on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton a 39-18 home win over Windsor to bring his 2012 total to 12.5, a new CIS football single-season record.
The 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive lineman, in his fourth campaign with the reigning Vanier Cup champion Marauders, entered the contest with 11.5 sacks, 0.5 shy of the previous CIS mark established in 1988 by former Bishop’s great Leroy Blugh and tied in 1996 by Queen’s Jim Aru.
D’Aguilar set the new national standard 90 seconds into the fourth quarter when he tackled pivot Austin Kennedy at the Windsor 20 for a nine-yard loss. He finished with four total tackles as McMaster (7-0) clinched first place in the OUA standings.
The senior from Hamilton has registered at least one sack in each of McMaster’s first seven games of the eight-match OUA schedule, including 3.0 against Guelph (Sept. 3), 1.0 vs. Waterloo (Sept. 8), 1.5 vs. Ottawa (Sept. 15), 1.0 vs. Queen’s (Sept. 22), 4.0 vs. Western (Sept. 29), 1.0 vs. York (Oct. 4) and 1.0 vs. Windsor (Oct. 13).
D’Aguilar will have one last chance to add to his record total next Saturday when the top-ranked Marauders close out league play at home against Laurier (3-4).
