CFC#8 AN MYER MARAUDERS (SOSSA) 16, CFC#4 CARDINAL NEWMAN CARDINALS (GHAC #1) 14:

Joshua Patterson’s 22 yard field goal held up and was the difference maker as CFC#8 and South Ontario Secondary Schools Association (SOSSA) representative AN Myer Marauders claimed the OFSAA Independent Bowl as the team edged out CFC#4 and Golden Horseshoe Athletic Association (GHAC) representative Cardinal Newman Cardinals 16-14.

The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the first quarter as Steven Frketich recovered a fumble and returned it for a 25 yard score.

However, the Marauders evened things up in the second quarter as Tyrell Ford connected with Tre Ford for a 61 yard touchdown.

In the second half, Tre Ford had a one yard quarterback sneak to put the Marauders up 13-7.  Then, Patterson’s field goal increased their lead. Nicholas Petermann put the Cardinals within reach with just over three minutes left in the game as he sprinted into the end zone for a one yard major.  It was a close as the Cardinals would get in the contest.

Tre Ford completed 15 passes in 27 attempts and a touchdown to guide the Marauders.  On defence, Austin Potter led the way in tackles with six.

As for the Cardinals, Joey Dilabbio registered four tackles.

Monday’s win marks the second straight one for the Marauders in the OFSAA Bowl Festival Series.
