uOttawa adds two local commits and one international commit to their Class of 2018.
Defensive lineman Alexandre Mathieu from Cégep de Chicoutimi and defensive back Gavin Robertson and linebacker Duncan Baird from St. Mark High School are ready to show the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees that they made the right call in recruiting them.

When you think of football, France doesn’t often come to mind. But, the country has a small but growing contingency of football players. Alexandre Mathieu from Cannes, France, is one of them.
“I am very thankful for the opportunity I got to play U Sports football. Coming from France, it’s very hard to get to this level,” Mathieu said. While overseas, he played with L’Iron Mask de Cannes before joining Les Cougars du Chicoutimi (RSEQ Division 3).
“I chose to commit to uOttawa because it felt like the right place for me to grow as a player and as a person. The coaching staff welcomed me, especially Coach JV. I’m excited and look forward to working with them.” the seven-year veteran said.
Mathieu, who is 6’4, 255lbs, added that, “The city of Ottawa seems like a nice place to study and live.” He is interested in English or Social Sciences.

Gavin Robertson will have to head to the downtown core to reach uOttawa, but the trek wouldn’t be done with disdain. “I believed it was the best fit, a great history of football,” Robertson said. “A great coaching staff with a wealth of knowledge. I’m looking forward to working and improving my football skills.”
Robertson lives on southern outskirts of Ottawa in Greely, Ontario. He played with the St. Mark Lions (National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association). The 6’0, 170lbs safety was named as an AIA all-star and was a runner-up in the Ottawa city championships. The potential criminology student also won the Brent Doxtater Award as the Lions’ MVP.
Before starting the next leg of his journey, Robertson said, “Thanks to all my coaches at St. Mark for helping me get here.”
