Nelson will hit the road for a 2012 Preseason Match-Up with the St. Peter’s Knights from Ottawa. The game will be played on the campus of Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario on Friday September 7th.
Nelson Offensive Coordinator Jeff Brock has this to say about the game. “This a great opportunity for our football program to visit a premier Ontario University and to play against a top notch program in St. Peter’s. Over the past few years we have chosen to visit McMaster, Western, and Laurier during the preseason to expose our players to academics and football programs at the next level. Developing strong student athletes is important to us and I think it can be reflected in the number of CIS players we have had in the past 5 seasons.”

“St. Peter’s (blue & white above) is always a power in the Capital region and they are certainly very well coached by Jim Mick and his staff. I am quite sure they will give us a great preseason test as we look to defend Halton and our Golden Horseshoe Bowl titles.”
St. Peter’s head coach Jim Mick has this to say about the experience. “Although we have won six Ottawa City Championships in the last eight years, we have only won two National Capital Bowl Championships in that span. In an effort to get back to a Bowl game, this will be the first time that we play a game during the first week of school. The Knights have a number of positions to fill in training camp, however, we had a very young team this year and will look to the experience of the returning players to lead them.”
The Lords will begin defence of their Golden Horseshoe Bowl Championship against one of Ottawa’s premier football programs. The Knights are coached by Jim Mick and challenge for the National Capital Bowl on a yearly basis. The Lords and Knights have never met in their history. This marks the first time Nelson will travel to Queen’s University. Several former Lords have gone on to play football for the Gaels including 2011 recruit Doug Corby, Ryan Bechmanis (DB, now an Assistant Coach), Dan Pawliw (LB), Jim Muller (DL), Raold Serebrin (QB). St. Peter’s alumni Matthew Lapointe is an offenisve lineman with the Gaels.
