Assistant Football Coach (Defense and Offense)
Job Description:
Acadia University, a member of Atlantic University Sport and a Canadian Interuniversity Sport member institution, is currently
accepting resumes for position/assistant position coaches for the 2015 season. This position will be responsible for assisting
the head football coach with on-field coaching, practice preparation, and game planning.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred; 2 years of coaching experience or equivalent combination of education and playing experience
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
• The ability to teach critical skills, regulations, and competitive football strategies and training techniques
• Knowledge of or ability to learn current strategies of recruiting and recruiting software
• Demonstrated skills in developing and motivating students both academically and athletically
• Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability
• Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing
• Proficiency in computer use and relevant Microsoft applications
• Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the University including, but not limited to, student- athletes,
parents, recruits, coaches, athletic training staff, and athletic department staff
• Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and
competitive performance
• Ability to work within the team oriented philosophy of the department of athletics
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
Essential Functions:
• Serve as Defensive/Offensive position/assistant position coach
• Work to retain successfully recruited athletes
• Conduct practice as related to defense/offense in cooperation with the head football coach and defensive/offensive
coordinator
• Design and implement weekly game plans, practice plans, scouting reports, and other game related materials
• Assist with the daily administrative duties of the program
• Promote the welfare and academic progress of student-athletes
• Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, to include counseling
team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, when appropriate
• Assist with timely compilation of data, reports, and rosters, as required by the athletic department and university
