Bantam Cougars rebound to defeat Hurricanes

The Chatham Bantam Cougars rebounded on Saturday with a 41-40 victory over Hamilton at the Chatham Kent Athletic Complex.  Jonathon Cartier lead the attack contributing TD’s on both sides of the ball staring with a rushing TD in the first quarter, followed by a 70 yard catch and run from Jarret Millard. Owen Turner had 53 yards rushing and a TD, Patrick Ezewski 16 yards rushing and a TD.  Jarret Millard was 11 for 19  including 2 TD passes, 1 an 80 yard catch and run to Cam Bechard the other a 70 yard catch and run to Jonathon Cartier.  Millard finished the day with 267 yards through the air his best outing of the season.

Defensively the Cougars are still struggling a bit this year , but managed to come up big when they needed to and held off a late game comeback from Hamilton.  Brendon Bondy was solid making 14 tackles for Chatham, Liam Henderson and Patrick Ezewski added 6 each. Ryan Murhaam and Aydn Lewis pitched in 4 tackles each.

Patrick Ezewski kicked a rouge right before halftime for the single point tying the game27-27 a point that would eventually win the game for the Cougars.  With the Cougars ahead 41-34 late in the game Hamilton put together their best drive of the game eventually scoring a touchdown with less than a minute to go. Hamilton opted to go for the win with a 2 point conversion try, but Defensive Coach Curtis LaBute had the kids ready for play and foiled Hamilton’s comeback hopes. The final score 41-40 Chatham. The Cougars will be in action again this Saturday at 4pm at CKSS.
