Bantam
The Burlington Stampeders suffered their first loss of the Ontario Football Conference rep season by losing 35-27 to the Brantford Bisons in a battle of unbeaten teams last weekend.
The Stampeders showed determination, however, narrowing the deficit to eight with 21 fourth-quarter points after going down 28-6 at the end of the third.
Myles Manalo led the Stampeders defence with eight tackles while Isiah Reid added 6.5. Reid also recovered a fumble, returning the ball for what could have been an important touchdown in the final quarter.
Manalo contributed on offence as well, running for 104 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Jaden Bailey added 88 rushing yards.
The Stamps, now 6-1, finish the regular season in Chatham this weekend.
Peewee
Despite excellent performances by the backfield and special team returners, the Stampeders dropped a 49-29 decision to the Chatham Cougars.
It was the third loss of the season for Burlington, which was playing its last home game of the regular season.
Josh Munoz scored two touchdowns and had 101 yards rushing on six carries. He added a two-point conversion as well. Sito Berrio ran 80 yards on five carries and quarterback Quincy Vaughn was six for 25 yards on the ground. Zac Ihasz scored a touchdown on a 75-yard kickoff return.
Vaughn completed three of six passes for 51 yards including a 40-yard TD pass to Munoz.
On defence, Munoz made five tackles and recorded a QB sack, Ihasz made four tackles and recovered a fumble he forced.
The Stampeders ended their inaugural season in second place and will travel to Chatham tomorrow (Saturday) to face first-place Twin City Predators in the OFC Peewee Day of Champs game.
Junior varsity
The Stampeders remain undefeated after blanking the Brantford Bisons 70-0 last weekend.
Nathan Haye, who excelled on both defence and offence, earned player-of-the-game honours.
Nick Langley led the offence with 225 rushing yards while Dominic Mandalfino and Connor Knight both recorded 102 all-purpose yards.
On defence, Jack Miller made 12 tackles and recorded a QB sack as well. Zachary Hoffner added 10 tackles.
The Stamps are in Chatham tonight (Friday) for their last regular-season game.
Varsity
The Stampeders have a bye this weekend after whipping the Brantford Bisons 50-2 last weekend.
Scoring TDs for the Stamps were Jude Armson with three, Connor Maltby, Gabriel Ferraro and Joshua Murray. Ferraro also added five converts and the team forced a safety as well.
The Stamps led 16-0, 26-2 and 40-2 by quarters.
