BCFC Players of the Week – Week 4: Downey, Hillhouse, Yochim (video)

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce the ”Players of the Week” for Week Four of the 2011 Season. For the second consecutive week all three teams are represented in the same categories.

The Langley Rams finally got in the win column in Week Four after a 28-10 victory in Kamloops. One of, if not the only reason the Rams found success was because of the Offensive Player of the Week, Nick Downey. The receiver/returner would account for 18 of the 28 points scored, making six catches for 167 yards and scoring three touchdowns. His reception average was an incredible 27.8 yards per catch. Downey is the second straight Ram to win the offensive award, after Daniel English won last week.

For the third straight week a member of the Chilliwack Huskers is the Defensive Player of the Week. The Huskers “D” saw a lot of playing time on Sunday, no-one better on the defensive side of the ball then Cody Hillhouse. The defensive back would make seven solo tackles, five assists, three special teams tackles, one special teams assist and one fumble recovery. His 28 defensive points would establish a new team record and are the most in a BCFC game since 2008. Jayson Bates of the Huskers was last week’s defensive player of the week.

On the heels of teammate DJ Weber, the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week is Okanagan Sun returner Robbie Yochim (77). The speedster would return nine punts for 185 yards including a sparkling 50 yard return to set up a Sun touchdown. His average return on Saturday night was 20.6 yards. His nine punt returns was one shy of the BCFC record of 10 in a single game.

Week Five of the BCFC season has a full slate of games. All eyes will be on Nanaimo on Saturday afternoon as the remaining undefeated teams the 4-0 Okanagan Sun visit the 4-0 Vancouver Island Raiders. At the same time on Saturday the 1-3 Kamloops Broncos will visit the 2-2 Westshore Rebels. The night cap will see the 0-4 Chilliwack Huskers in Langley to take on the 1-3 Rams.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
