The University of Manitoba Bisons Football program is pleased to announce the addition of a recruiting commitment, a defensive lineman from British Columbia, Demarius Henderson.
Demarius Henderson is a 6’5″, 255 lb. player from Burnaby, BC, where he plays for the Saint Thomas More Collegiate Knights in the AAA division of the BCHSFA. Although he enters the Bisons program as a defensive tackle, he was a contributor at multiple positions for the Knights, spending significant time as a linebacker and an offensive lineman.
“I’m extremely pleased to have Demarius Henderson join our group of D-linemen,” says Bison DL coach Lance Glover. “We can’t wait for Demarius to get to Winnipeg and start working with our group. He is one of the top defensive line recruits in the country and I know he will be a great addition the Bison defensive line group.”
Bison Head Coach Brian Dobie elaborated on Coach Glover’s feelings.
“We are extremely honoured and happy that Demarius has chosen to pursue both his academic career and his football experience at the University of Manitoba. Demarius brings a great combination of size and athleticism that makes him an asset to our defense.
The Knights were 5-1 in league play this year before falling to New Westminster in the provincial quarterfinal.
Despite the sudden end to the season, Demarius is positive as he looks to the future.
“I want to thank Coach Dobie for keeping it real and making my decision a lot easier, so when all was said and done I found that the University of Manitoba is the best fit for me both on and off he field., When I received the offer it was a no brainer. With the help of my family, friends, and coaches I knew exactly what I wanted to be: I wanted to be a part of the Bison family.”
Bison recruiting co-ordinator Chris Clement acknowledged the importance of adding to the strong Bison DL group.
“Demarius was nationally known as a top athlete in BC and we are definitely excited to have him join the Bison program. Manitoba has a strong tradition of producing CFL talent on the defensive line, and recruits of this caliber are essential to continuing that success.
Demarius is the second recruit from British Columbia, and the first defensive lineman.
