All-Star lineman Michael Beck has enjoyed a decorated career playing for various teams in the Coquitlam area. Michael began his football career as a member of the Coquitlam Minor Football Cougars, playing for the Cougars in 2006 and 2007. He would then join the CMFL Vikings for the 2008 and 2009 campaigns before representing his school as a member of the Terry Fox Secondary School Ravens in 2010, where Beck is headed into his senior year.
During his minor football career Beck has earned four Top Lineman awards to go along with a Most Improved Player award.
In 2012 Michael earned a spot on Team British Columbia and a chance to play in the FBU International Bowl in San Antonio Texas. Michael and team BC would take full advantage of the opportunity, defeating Team USA in the final, a moment that Michael holds as his favorite football memory.
Michael is currently preparing for the inaugural Border Bowl between BC and Alberta taking place later this May as a member of the Rising Stars of BC team. In addition to the Rising Stars team, Michael is currently trying out once again for Team BC in an attempt to repeat last years success.
In such a prolific career one achievement that has eluded Beck is a high school championship. However the Terry Fox Raven speaks about the upcoming high school season with optimism and determination, saying “2013 is the year, I will do everything in my power to make it happen.”
Michael credits trainers and coaches Marc Beswick and Eddie Ferg as his greatest football influences, and speaks highly of his parents and the contribution they have made to his life on and off the field, “my parents have supported me in everything I have tried to do and even when it’s tough they always made it happen for me.”
Michael’s favorite pro player was the late Jerome Bettis, admiring the passion that fueled Bettis’ gritty play on the gridiron, saying, “I try to emulate his style and heart every time I get on the field.”
In addition to football Michael is accomplished in Tae Kwon Do, holding a second degree black belt and earning gold in sparring at the 2011 Western Canadian championships.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
