Carabins defense abused the Huskies in a 29-10 victory

Montreal , September 14, 2013 – Montreal Carabins recorded their third victory in as many outings with a 29-10 against Saint Mary ‘s Saturday afternoon at CEPSUM.  The Carabins completely dominated the visitors by limiting them to a cumulative -24 yards gained , and an impressive total of 11 quarterback sacks.

” We dominated the line of scrimmage today” , said head coach of the Carabins , Danny Maciocia .   “Saint Mary’s was looking for answers and our linemen always managed to get to their quarterback. ”

Defensive lineman Olivier Daoust – Pichette (Administration , HEC Montreal ) was the most productive with a total of six tackles, including four for a loss and 1.5 sack .

“We have a super aggressive defense and we know that if everyone has a good performance in the field, we’ll get to the quarterback ,” said he said.

Carabins defense also scored points. In the final minute , Jordan Rwiyamilira ( Philanthropic Management ) made an interception and scored on a 44-yard return for a touchdown . Safety Anthony Coady ( Health and Physical Education ) was also the receipient of two interceptions in the second half, including one as the Huskies threatened in the territory of the Carabins .

Often finding themselves stuck deep in their territory , the Huskies conceded three safeties.

Several turnovers in the first half

The Carabins suffered four turnovers of their own in the first half, but they had still managed a 12-10 lead at halftime. Samuel Nadeau- Piuze (Administration , HEC Montreal ) fumbled on a punt return , but the Carabins managed to block the field goal attempt that followed . On their next possession, the hometeam failed to make a yard on a third down attempt. Starting quarterback Pierre- Luc Varhegyi (Administration , HEC Montreal ) also threw two interceptions, also completing seven of his 12 passes for gains of 109 yards. His back up Gabriel Cousineau (Administration , HEC Montreal ), played most of the second half and saw four of his five passes completed for 29 yards.

The Huskies had narrowed the score in the second quarter when Eric Black returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown.
