Montreal – The Montreal Carabins did not spend too much time celebrating their first historical Dunsmore Cup, a feat which was achieved last Saturday at Laval University. Preparations are already underway for the Uteck Cup semi-final match to be held at CEPSUM this Saturday at 12:30pm.
The Carabins are participating in the championship for the first time in their history after coming back on the college football scene in 2002, after 30 years absence. They will face the Canada West conference champions, Manitoba Bisons who ended Calgary DInos regin of six straight titles.
Before moving more concretely to the next step, the Carabins Director of Sports Excellence, Manon Simard, and Head Coach Danny Maciocia reflect on this historic achievement.
Another milestone for the Carabins
“This title is a reflection of the growth of not only our football team, but the entire organization,” said SImard. “We have worked hard for several years to build a sports program at the height of the university we represent.”
“Our sports program, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, is still young and is formed by builders. What matters to us is not so much ending the Rouge et O’s streak, but to continue our progress. This Dunsmore Cup is what we lacked in reaching the next level.”
“Our program continues to establish itself as one of the best places for sports and academic supervision of the best student-athletes.”
Maciocia also reflected as the team has spent the past few days preparing for the Uteck Bowl.
“It’s definitely a feat for Universite of Montreal and we are very proud,” said Maciocia. “We now represent what I think is the best conference in Canada.”
Congratulations and support from all
“We were bombarded with congratulatory messages of all kinds, not only in Quebec and the other provinces, but also the United States and even Europe,” said Maciocia. “It shows that college football has a special place.”
“We obviously do not have the time to thank all these people personally, but we greatly appreciate this support. We feel the excitement on our campus and around Montreal. We now have the opportunity to host a historic game, in our home, and we will need everyone to help us continue our journey.”
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
