CFL POW (19): Walker, Lemon & Reilly

Tuesday, November 3, 2015 — TORONTO – Derel Walker, Shawn Lemon, and Mike Reilly were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 19 of the CFL’s 2015 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

WR | DEREL WALKER | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Edmonton’s first-year player, Derel Walker  caught three touchdown passes in their 40-22 win over the Montreal Alouettes to give them first place in the West Division.

Walker’s trio of touchdowns doubled his season total, and his 128 yards on 10 catches put him at 1,110 yards for the season, the only rookie to join an elite club of veterans in the 1000-yard club despite missing a third of the season.

The Hillsboro, Texas native had an electrifying first quarter, snagging five grabs for 57 yards, including one touchdown on a nine-play, 71-yard drive.

The former Aggie scored twice more, both in the closing quarter of the game from Mike Reilly passes. Walker caught a six-yard pass from Reilly at the top of the quarter to give Edmonton a score after a 77-yard drive. He capped off the game with a 28-yard pass to give Edmonton an 11-point lead with just over nine minutes to go.

Walker closed his season with 89 recpetions and hauled in six touchdowns on the year.

The win secured Edmonton their first bye into the West Final since 2003. This is Walker’s fourth recognition, with accolades for the month of August as well as Weeks 10 and 14.

DL | SHAWN LEMON | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Ottawa REDBLACKS defensive lineman Shawn Lemon recorded a pair of sacks to help the REDBLACKS clinch a home playoff date with a 12-6 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

In a game that featured strong defensive play, Lemon was able to get to Hamilton quarterback Jeff Mathews in the first quarter for a nine-yard loss and then again in the fourth quarter for an eight-yard loss.

On both occasions he forced a fumble on the play. His first sack and fumble was recovered by his teammate Moton Hopkins and led to a REDBLACKS field goal to extend their lead to six points.

Lemon also added a tackle for a loss when he wrapped up Terrell Sinkfield for a four-yard loss.

In eight games this season the Akron University product has accumulated 13 tackles and five sacks.

QB | MIKE REILLY | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly helped secure his team first place in the West after coming back and beating the Montreal Alouettes 40-22 at Commonwealth Stadium.

Reilly completed 29 of 35 passes (82.9 percent) for 308 yards and tossed three touchdowns to Derel Walker.

The Kennewick, Washington native also added 16 rushing yards on 6 attempts.

The Central Washington product passed for 2,449 yards this season, completing 65 percent of his passes and throwing 15 touchdowns. Reilly also displayed his mobility, rushing for 324 yards on the season, scoring two touchdowns and averaging 4.9 yards per rush.

This is Reilly’s third time being named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week. He was also named a Top Performer in Week 12 and 18.
