In a self-disclosed press release from Tyler Varga, the CIS football rookie of the year has announced that he will not be returning to Western.
“At this time I would like to announce my decision to withdraw from the University of Western Ontario and the UWO football program. I would like to thank the university, the city of London, the fans, the alumni, and my teammates for the way they have treated me and contributed to my experience over the past year. Western is a great university with top-notch academic facilities and faculty. It is a place where students can achieve their academic goals regardless of their academic path of choice. The city of London, the fans and the supporters of Western Football are the best that I have ever experienced and the alumni’s support for the school and football program is second to none. My teammates are a great bunch of guys and they are what I will miss the most. I wish them and the university all the best in the future.”
We asked Tyler when he would divulge where he was going and he said “I don’t have any further comment at this time.”
“We respect Tyler’s decision not to return to the Mustangs. There is no question that Tyler is an outstanding young man. He has demonstrated his talent and skills at the highest levels as both an athlete and student here at Western,” says Greg Marshall, head coach of the Western Mustangs. “We appreciate the contributions that he made to the Mustangs football program last year and wish him the very best in his future pursuits.”
