Class 2012: CB/FS Jean Gayrard chooses Vert et Or

Thetford Mines CB Jean Gayrard is focused and ready to earn spot on Vert et Or roster for the upcoming season.

Jean began playing football in his hometown of Thetford Mines, QC. In high school, Jean suited up for les Montagnards de la polyvalente de Thetford. Jean went on to win one championship in high school (Juvenile A) with les Montagnards .Gayrard then made the decision to pursue his football career at the CEGEP level. He made the decision to remain in his hometown and began his career with Les Filons. Jean made his presence felt in his first campaign with Les Filons as he won rookie of the year honours. In 2011, Gayrard was named on the league all star team proving to be one of the elite players of the league (CEGEP DIV 3).

The 5’8, 155 lbs Defensive back has been perceived to be undersized but most of his opponents and coaches say that he “plays big”. His performance at the CEGEP level has proved many people wrong as he has been very successful and has managed to get recruited in the CIS.

Jean had his best football memory while he played high school football with Thetford. His team won the Juvenile A championship.

“We had such a solid team that year, it was nice to win it all” said Gayrard.

Jean also added that his previous coaches are the reason he had such success at the High school and Cegep levels. The one that helped him the most is Maddy Lacroix, a defensive back coach who is presently coaching in the U.S.A. Maddy served as head coach of Les Condors de Beauce-Appalaches for many years and also served as a coach at the Wilson challenge during the summer.

“Maddy is defenitly the coach that helped me become better on the field, he has great knowledge of the game and all that comes with it”.

Jean also had lots of support from his father, who played and coached the game of football.

“I wanted to follow my father’s footsteps and become the best player possible”.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
